Hatch day
I get like a kid on hatch day. Don’t count before they hatch but at 14 day candle we lost only 3. Down to 36. Several have already pipped. I love it. It is so much fun. I’ve got plenty of roosters so every egg is fertile. I’m gonna grow these on pasture while also providing grower feed and sell them at 6 weeks as layer pullets/meat birds. The money will be ok and the demand will be high for chickens that age. But I do it just because it’s a lot of fun. If you have a flock of hens and no rooster, get yourself a cock and a cheap incubator. It’s great fun.
Let’s make it 110.

Do they all hatch the same day? How many days til you know how many cocks vs. hens?

Re: Hatch day
Also, can you post a pic of a baby cock chick. Or do they call cock chicks, chicks or chocks?

Re: Hatch day
Yay for chickies! I had one batch hatch out a few weeks ago, the next is due in 3 more days. It is very fun too watch it happen.

I have found that adding a tsp of Braggs vinegar to their drinking water keeps them from having any pasty butt issues - good digestion and probiotics. Also ferment their wheat, dry it and grind it for a great chick-starter.I don't trust the storebought feeds anymore.

Can't wait to see what you get!

For me, hatching usually takes 2-3 days. There are a few early-birds, and a few late bloomers. The first ones to hatch peep their little heads off and call the others to peck their way out of the eggs, and then a whole bunch will hatch at once. I've always gotten about 50/50 on male and female. The length of the feathers at the tip of the wing tells me what I've got. You can see photos by gaagling "sexing hatchling chicks."
