If the geography were more favorable, more industrious people would’ve exploited Africa at a high level in the 1800s and 1900s.

Northern Europe ran 'the place' from 1600AD and on. Today Wagner is ending that arrangement and the material goods will come from China to east coast ports. From there, new rail lines will network all the way to the West Coast, rather than upgrade ports on that coast as well.

Depends what counts as developed. Some places in Africa are pretty nice.

Also Africa is huge, it’s an entire continent. So many nations, different cultures etc. on it. Some places developed, many don’t. A bit like America.

The context of the video is large scale development. Some areas of Africa don’t have running water much less toilets or showers. Dr Sowell says in the video that the reason for this is primarily because the river aren’t navigable. So the price of bare essentials like grain to the inland is astronomical. There isn’t much room to build because the price of shipping food inland breaks the bank.

The development has been retarded by geography. That’s the takeaway from the video.
