When there are real and possibly armed thugs on your property, it actually gets serious. There's no practicing for this as it's an entirely new experience.

If you shoot, you have to justify, if only to your own soul. Most likely, you'll be justifying it to law enforcement. Either way, it's way beyond joking.

I really don't know if I'd prefer to be armed with a firearm or some lesser weapon - it's entirely dependent on the situation. Yes, have it in reserve, but carrying when you might just shoot the neighbor's kid in the dark - that's serious.
