I've never heard of things like this being negotiable. More often than not, there's no warning at all as to whether we're talking $500 or $50,000. The only thing you know for sure is that the vet must think he or she is worth $25 or so per hour, and the Swiss-trained staff all take home six figures.

I don't want to hear how expensive the equipment is or how much veterinary school costs. ALL veterinary practices should price match services to whatever their local low-cost clinic would charge for the same procedure. If vets really cared about animals they'd prioritize the pet & work out a payment plan of some type of whatever solution with the owner. Ask how much they can pay and figure out something from there.

Had a calf that got out and ate a bunch of plastic bags and bloated. We gave her apple cidar vinegar-soaked bread every day for a week. It broke down the plastic and she passed it and lived.Got the tip from another rancher who had several calves eat a large tarp. Calves love "chewing gum."

As much vinegar as the animal will tolerate, on whatever food they will eat.
