Friend of mine, her 23yo daughter just paid 60k for a new truck. Another person I know, his son, 24YO, paid 80k for a new truck. Buy one vehicle and drive it for the rest of your life. If everyone did this, the prices of new cars and trucks would plummet. |

Quoting: Overgoverned But that truck didn't cost $30,000 in 1995, did it? I was high-end for the first generation Rams, and I never priced a Cummins, but I doubt if it was $25,000. Maybe the seller thinks it has collector cachet. Seller is dreaming. What's KBB say? I think $12,000 would be very generous. I paid 21K for a 2003 Nissan Frontier in 2003. Still have it |

Still have it Runs in my mind that the low-end Ram, the "Work Special" (plain wheels, painted trim, six cylinder) was around $8000. Before the Ram, Dodges were notorious rustbuckets in road salt regions. After a couple of years, when I noticed they weren't rusting like Dodges, I was impressed. But it turns out they'd only delayed the rust development. They're still Dodges. The 1998-2000 Frontier was a good looking truck. Especially the four cylinder. Like 27 MPG. |

However, I can get a nice gas version of this truck for like 7k. A new cummins crate for 6k. Lets say I'd spend 4k to install. 30k is out of the ballpark on that truck. The seller is truly nuts. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80803555 [link to humboldt.craigslist.org (secure)] They are really good quality, well made vehicles that would cost at least 150k, IF they were at all possible to be made in todays challenging climate control environment, and pollution etc. In todays market, you can't make vehicles that well anymore until you get into the semi-truck range of products. If I had alot of money, I would be buying up older vehicles rite now, to collect a fleet of them. They will pay for themselves over the next few decades when they still continue to work and be serviceable, parts-availability considered though, Don't buy something that you can't get parts for, if you do, Make sure its really reliable or buy two of them. You nailed it. New computer cars will be worthless in less than 10 years. I just bought an 03 Jetta TDI and I'm going through fixing little issues. Even this car is almost too new with too many gadgets to break. With the diesel it is my hope to get 1 million miles from this little car @ 48 MPG. Watch out for early 2000 VWs and Audis. Lots of engineering went into them that will eventually break, so they tend to have alot of issues. Buck Tardwater |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79746288 It isn't just the diesels, all over craigslist you see this sort of insanity with far older and worse condition and less desirable trucks. And it isn't just Trucks, pretty much any old used consumer item on CL is virtually the same price as a brand new one. They don't understand the idea of depreciation on there. |
