The Bible and Jesus' teachings are not a form of control at all...along with the gnostic gospels. Yes, religion and its many variations of churches, mosques and temples are for the most part control oriented. They remove your personal relationship with God and try to program you as to how and interpret holy scriptures. The teachings on their own are just loving suggestions given to you so that if you follow them you will feel better about yourself and have a better life.
