And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that "except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel Benjamin Franklin Who do you think this was - Allah?! |

Actually most of them had a deistic view of God. Thomas Jefferson himself didn't like the idea of miracles, because he was a rationalist and in the end the country they founded has God but no Christianity and no denomination. As much you don't like it. It's a deist nation created on deist principles. That is why you can find all these personal quotes but none of it is in any of the founding documents period. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85890454 The Bible. (For the LORD is our Judge, The LORD is our Lawgiver, The LORD is our King; He will save us); Isaiah 33:22 Wrong again. "The Enlightenment philosopher Montesquieu coined the phrase “trias politica,” or separation of powers, in his influential 18th-century work “Spirit of the Laws.” His concept of a government divided into legislative, executive and judicial branches acting independently of each other inspired the framers of the U.S. Constitution, who vehemently opposed concentrating too much power in any one body of government. In the Federalist Papers, James Madison wrote of the necessity of the separation of powers to the new nation’s democratic government: “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elected, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”" [link to www.history.com (secure)] “The rules are simple: they lie to us, we know they're lying, they know we know they're lying, but they keep lying to us, and we keep pretending to believe them.” Elena Gorokhova, A Mountain of Crumbs |
