They did this in the areas of political unrest against Communism, mostly in the Southeastern regions and Ukraine because, as Stalin stated, “A starving man has no time for Revolution.”

Because of it, the Germans thought they would have an easy time rolling through Southern Russia to the Caucuses Oil Fields, only to find out too late that the Russians had 5million troops in those areas to crush any dissent.

This wrecked the German invasion timeline, and forced them to redeploy troops meant for the assault on Moscow to the South.
