Yeah let’s add up all your maintenance costs for 400K miles, what car are you buying for under $1K you can’t even buy anything for under $1K in 3rd world countries End of life ICE cars are like $3K My last few ICE cars were free, and they ran OK. I put nothing but oil, brakes, tires,and a couple of cheap parts from the pickapart junkyard. 200k miles later, everything works better than when I got them. My van cost 1k and I'm still driving it five years later. I'll be driving these for the next 10 years at least unless I get a nearly free EV to play with. EVs need tires and brakes, and I barely touch the brakes when driving. It's all in how you drive the car and how you drive mentally as to how long the car lasts. Here is why: - Larger upfront cost - $20k+ battery replacement at 100-150k miles - You still pay to charge at a rate of 1/3 of an equivalent 30mph ICE vehicle. - At that rate you only are saving ~$1k a year in 'fuel' for 12k mi/yr. - Parts are harder to come by for lower production models - Most don't come with a charger. EV's are for self-appointed climate specialists who don't do enough research to realize the lithium refinement process does more damage to the environment than fossil fule refinement. |
