Seriously, he was movie star material - I had never met anyone so physically fit. His wife, Jeannie, is a former professional pilot and they have two children together. Thing was I wasn't surprised at his death whatsoever. Mountaineering types do, in fact, have massive egos - you climb one mountain, it's on to the next with Everest being the ultimate claim to fame. I'm sure conquering mountains is the ultimate ego-builder - and, in actuality, it is an amazing human achievement. However, mother nature doesn't care about egos whatsoever. Scott's body is still on Everest as tradition has it. Unfortunately for his wife and children, they still suffer tremendously both financially and emotionally. They were sued by the other members of his 'team' that either died or were seriously injured. It must be that some people simply have a death wish especially when they think climbing Everest is just another feather in their cap of 'look how great I am...I climbed Everest'. With so many climbing Everest, it's a moot point whether they succeed or not. |

Kennison, who was climbing with Asian Trekking, survived a horrific car crash in 2006, and had to re-learn to walk after sustaining a spinal injury in the wreck. Kennison was climbing the peak to raise funds for an Australian nonprofit that helps people with spinal-cord injuries. “We are so proud of his achievements and we take great solace in knowing he made it to the summit. The highest place on this earth,” his family wrote in a statement online. |

The people that go there are extreme-o-philes...which means the vast majority are leftist lunatic Darwin Award candidates. Leftists are filthy people. It's inarguable. They are so averse to cleaning, they hire other people to do it or if they're poor, they just live in a fucking mess. Libs are by far the most messy, filthy weirdos I have ever encountered. Most are tree hugging hypocrites. Now they litter the mountains with their bodies. "A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." Marcus Tullius Cicero |

Climbers face the dangers of falling off the mountain, tripping into huge crevices, asphyxiation from low oxygen levels, avalanches and falling rocks, and weather that can unexpectedly change drastically in mere minutes. At the summit, winds can reach hurricane strength literally blowing the climber off the mountain. Oxygen levels leave the climbers gasping for breath while their oxygen deprived brains leave them unable to make rational decisions. Some climbers stop for a brief rest only to slowly drift into a deep sleep, never to wake up. All dangers aside, ask any climber who has beaten the mountain and reached the 29,000 foot summit and they will tell you the most memorable, and disturbing, part of their climb were the many perfectly preserved bodies that they passed on their way to the top. Climbing Mount Everest is a four-day endeavor, not counting the seven day hike to Base Camp nor the two week layover where climbers allow their bodies to acclimate to the high altitude environment. Climbers begin their four-day Mount Everest climb at Base Camp located at the foot of the mountain. Climbers leave the 17,700 foot base camp, which borders Tibet and Nadas, and seek to reach Camp #1 located at 20,000 feet. After resting the night at Camp #1, they next travel to Camp #2, also known as Advanced Base Camp (ABC). From Advanced Base Camp they move to Camp #3 where at 24,500 feet, oxygen levels are so low, they must wear oxygen masks while they sleep. From Camp #3 climbers attempt to reach South Col or Camp 4. After reaching Camp #4, climbers arrive at the “death zone” and must decide whether to continue, stop and rest a little longer, or turn back. Those that choose to move forward face the most difficult segment of their journey. At 26,000 feet, in the “death zone”, necrosis sets in and their body begins to die. During their ascent, the climber is literally teetering on the brink of life and death and in a race to reach the summit, and back, before their bodies shut down and die. Should they fail in the attempt, their bodies become part of the mountain landscape. |

There are things that appeal to the majority of people that completely baffle me, and make me think I'm on the wrong planet. Like mountain climbing when there isn't someone or something chasing you. Or using Facebook ever. very weirdly coincidentally, i took this screenshot while using facebook just a few minutes before you posted this sentiment. i understand if you don't want to be friends lol. https://imgur.com/a/O3S1J3Z You are epic! --------------- Don't care. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72643058 i hiked from the end of the road at katmandu into the everest region in the late 90's and it was a total clown shoe then. once up past namche bazaar the air was super thin. each night you would wind up in a sherpa lodge with the same general group of people from the previous day. there was this japanese guy who rarely ate more than several bowls of rice each evening. on one of my last nights before hiking back to lukla, the sherpa lodge was close to an alpine lake that was completely covered with snow/ice. the japanese guy was returning to the lodge from a day hike and it was already dark. we could see his headlamp from the dining room windows. he must have forgotten about the lake or assumed the snow/ice was solid enough to support him, (probably the latter), but he left the trail and made straight for the lights of the lodge, which took him across the lake. this agitated the sherpa people who ran the lodge and they were chatting urgently in nepali as we watched the head lamp move along. ultimately he broke through the ice and there was nothing anyone could do but watch the light jerk around as he thrashed and eventually died. they were able to fish him out sometime the next day, though i did not stick around for that. most of the people i saw up there, and there were a lot, were not really prepared to be there. Mount Everest ascent is on The List of so many dummies. Some people go there and LIE about their heart condition then collapse, even die. A woman died a few years ago because of her selfish egomania due to this. Some people treat their sherpas like servant monkey people. An Italian gut almost got his ass kicked for berating a sherpa last year. People leave garbage, junk, piss shit all over the mountain. All of these Top 20 Destination places are getting flooded with disrespectful ass-clowns now. Machu Pichu has been getting wrecked in recent years, word of that being closed off.
