National Severe Weather 2023/24; Two Months Until Hurricane Season; Atlantic MDR is Already JULY Hot p. 212
Updates below for July..

Everyone knows Texas has hot summers. This isn't a hot Texas summer thread. It's about heat indexes not normally seen until late July or August.

A heat dome is a type of high-pressure system that occurs when a large area of high pressure in the upper atmosphere traps hot air near the surface of the earth. This results in a dome-like shape of high pressure that prevents the hot air from rising and cooling, leading to persistent hot and dry weather conditions.

This particular heat dome is rare primarily because of the high heat indexes driven by high humidity.

Stay cool.

HOT

Computer models project the strength of the heat dome over northern Mexico, swelling into Texas, to hover in the 99th-percentile range into next week — meaning it’s statistically exceptionally rare. Percentile is a term used to denote thresholds or boundary values in frequency distributions. In climate analysis, percentile is used to classify climate divisions as "very warm/wet" or "very cold/dry" based on their standardized anomaly.

Finally, a light at the end of this 3-week-long 'hot' tunnel - just 9 days to go.
Hang in there Texas.

AccuWeather meteorologists put Northeast on alert for serious flash flood risk

People across the Northeast are encouraged to stay weather aware over the coming days as a swath of tropical moisture can result in damaging consequences from eastern Pennsylvania to Maine. In some locations, a month's worth of rain could fall in a matter of hours, according to AccuWeather's expert team of forecasters.

Mark Bosma, public information officer at VEM, said that the rescues underscore the danger posed by a weather event that has the entire state on a flood watch.

Communities along the spine of the Green Mountains are at highest risk of flood danger, according to Bosma, who said the situation will likely deteriorate in many areas as rain continues to fall through the day.

“The big takeaway is things are not getting any better right now. In fact they’re getting worse in many areas,” Bosma said. “Right now we just want to reiterate to everyone to stay away from flood waters. Don’t drive through them. Don’t walk through them. And if they’re approaching your position, just get out of there and seek high ground.

Not the first time Happy has been hit. So far, the storms really haven't been too different from most other years. It just hasn't been as active the last few and there are tons more chasers live streaming now that didn't years back.

Last night and tonight massive lightning strikes and storms. Weather alerts said expected three inch to baseball size hail. Very strange weather pattern. It’s like bursts, or pockets of storms appear all of a sudden —- out of nowhere.

I remember long ago cold fronts from the north would gradually come down and meet with the warm air causing moisture to fall, but these days anything goes.

ERCOT is forecasting Texas will blow past its record-high demand for energy this week.

Parts of North Texas, including Fort Worth, hit 100 degrees for the first time this year Sunday, June 11. In the next 10 days, North Texas will likely see seven days where temperatures top 100.

“That extra degree or two of heat is causing that extra thousand megawatts to be needed,” Doug Lewin, author of Texas Energy and Power newsletter, said. “That can be the difference between outages and not.”

Last year the heat was on in May like it was July in Texas and I think ERCOT held up .. but maybe not? Rough weather and high demand.

Yes, and it’s weird that Texans have no interest in the weather modification companies in their own state. I lived in SF for years and then moved back to Texas.

We expect triple digits here in Guadalupe Co. TX all week. I don't mind the heat so much, but what sucks is that the scorpions try to get in when it gets hot like this. I saw one just a few minutes ago that was at least 5" long. They are usually 2 or 3 inches.

Totally agree!

“Weather Modification - Weather Modification – Focused efforts to produce additional rainfall using cloud seeding are widespread in much of West and South Texas during the growing season, which extends from early spring until autumn each year. In fact, areas where cloud seeding is concentrated covers about one-sixth of the land area of Texas. The seeding is done primarily for rainfall enhancement using aircraft and sophisticated weather radar data. Decisions to deploy aircraft and disperse seeding materials (both silver iodide and salts) are made by trained meteorologists licensed by TDLR specifically for weather modification. Aircraft are based at airports in various locations within the “target” areas of these projects, i.e. where the impact of seeding (more rainfall from thunderstorms) is intended.”
