In the news.. a bit ago.

"Data shows, for the first time, that the peak demand for electricity this summer will exceed the amount we can generate from on-demand, dispatchable power," Peter Lake, chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas, said during an early May press conference. Lake has since resigned from his post. Offering no explanation for the departure, Gov. Greg Abbott shared the news Friday and said a new appointee will be announced soon.

In any case, TXANS notifications will not replace Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) notices sent out to ERCOT's Emergency Emails distribution list. Those interested in receiving TXANS alerts can visit www.ercot.com/txans to sign up for notifications.

Welcome to Texas, especially in a strong El Nino year. The first year we lived down there, the actual temp was over 115 for weeks and the storms were huge.

Low-precipitation supercell thunderstorm.

At least with these you can usually see the twister coming, unlike much of the Midwest,,where they’re often wrapped in rain and hence invisible until they hit.

Perfectly normal weather patterns here, nothing new.

Been here for the last 60 years, we know how to live in it. The real danger was biden forcing all the natural gas power plants to shut down. That’s why we now have power issues.

Even still, our solar farms work fairly well as long as not too many overcast days, and our grid gets loaded beyond what we can handle without those nasty, filthy, “Clean Natural Gas” plants could provide.

Trust me, as soon as biden is gone, the Texas Power Grid will suddenly be fixed!

Good luck! High heat & high humidity really sucks!

Headed into summer, record demand for ERCOT is 80,038 MW set July 20 of last year when Texas set records 11 different times.
ERCOT expected peak demand this summer to pass that, hitting 82,739 MW.
Now, in just the second week of June, forecasts as of Sunday evening are for a peak of 82,416 MW at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 16.

Yesterday the NWS pushed to this particular heat wave to Monday the 19th.

We expect triple digits here in Guadalupe Co. TX all week. I don't mind the heat so much, but what sucks is that the scorpions try to get in when it gets hot like this. I saw one just a few minutes ago that was at least 5" long. They are usually 2 or 3 inches.

Lots of my (women) friends moved from California 2 Texas (thinking it's new utopia or something) they have suffered tornados, and excoriating heat - are terrified of snakes and bugs, and cannot cook without a microwave. None of them put in a wood stove (that - and a water well (water storage) are essential first steps))

I've got family from the Midwest - and am pretty skilled in off grid living (can hunt, garden, fish) used to run a firewood business // these friends from California flooding into Texas - are very spoiled, unskilled, UNFIT (overweight) and dumb.

I've got off grid family here in California (undisclosed coastal area) / and am continuing to use my bike 4 transportation, and am growing most of my own produce. We aren't allowed a wood stove - but I am beyond caring at my age.

It seems like people are being "herded" into Texas - and it is rough living in that state. They are very unprepared.

I can take hot, but I can't stand humidity.

100 degrees with high humidity is a living hell, because you can never dry off the sweat, and your cloths all stick to you.

In Oregon I'm still comfortable with 100 degrees, because it's dry heat, and my cloths don't stick to me.

I had a place on the Yucatan, and I went there in September once, and I had to practically live in the ocean to survive.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77511995

To bring body temp down it is actually good to take a warm to hot shower or bath. Cold water will make the body temps rise. But I’m sure the ocean was probably warm. Hot and spicy foods will cool the body off also.
