Expecting heat index of about 110 in the Coastal Plains today.

Yuck.

This is not supposed to happen until July.

Forecast for the next 10 days looks like triple digits.

105-108 starting Friday, and that's without the heat index. I'm worried for a lot of people I know who work outside in this, especially my spouse.

This is usually late July-August weather.
Ah well, I do remember 1980 in June here. No Air conditioning, just an attic fan that pulled air in thru open windows. Mom would fill the bathtubs so we could soak our sheets in it, draping ourselves with them in the bed, and keep us cool enough to sleep.

I'm grateful this time for not only our AC, but having a good friend ac mechanic 2 miles away, just in case.

Only 2 more months and the weather will be amazing again!
 Quoting: Bibble Boots

AC will be no good when power goes out.
And the influx of out of staters putting high demand on energy and water will result in catastophe.
Have generator back up.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80686677

Since 2019 the MW usage is up about 10,000 at peak usage. They are expecting something like 84,000MW Friday. Last year Texas broke the MW usage record 11 times - it started earlier last year in May, and I believe the difference has been the jet stream blocking and cooler temperatures to north and west this year.
It'll likely be another miserable hot n humid summer.

skulburn

ERCOT is sending mixed messages. They say they don't have the capacity and will be relying on the green energies - again. At least they got past May when they do a lot of maintenance.

Thankful we have a whole house generator.

Our neighbors, across the street, do not have a generator, and just replaced all their windows with fixed, not openable, windows. I advised them against this, in case we have a power outage in the summer, their house will tuurn into a crock pot quickly.

If the power goes down, we will, of course, invite them into our home. They are very nice, but a bit religious. If they look too closely at my very eclectic library, they may freak chuckle, as I love to read about various religions and types of spirituality.

If you're truly east of Dallas and still in Texas then you'll likely see heat index between 105 to 110 through Saturday.

IF you're east of Amarillo in the panhandle then you've had thunderstorm after thunderstorm most of this month cooling your region.

For whatever reason, you seem to be triggered by the real news of a heat wave in PARTS of Texas.

IF there is something else that is bothering you and you feel the need to address it here, by all means do so.

Perhaps someone will indulge you in polite and civil conversation.

It's the first time the power grid operator has issued the new alert, warning that power plants alone won't be able to generate enough electricity to cover Texas during times of extreme demand. That doesn't mean brown or blackouts will hit, but the warning days in advance, is to try to ensure people's air conditioning and lights stay on.

ERCOT's weather warning for the next seven days, is the second stage of its new plan to be more open with Texans about how much power is available. Ercot's new visual for demand in the days ahead shows that—with a dip in supply expected Friday night between six and eight o'clock, even though demand stays pretty high, things may get tight.

I don't believe that's accurate. Many months where it doesn't drop below 100 at night.

really?

I doubt anyone would live there if that's the case and certainly ERCOT couldn't keep up with that demand.
