Where I live we don't get enough sun (PA) to justify solar. Additionally, we spent a ridiculous amount of money installing a new heating system several years ago. I have no idea what else to do. |

Lots of options here. |

User ID: 420547 United States 05/19/2008 09:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | wood stoves are great because they radiate heat pretty good. My dad, when he used to live in the foothills in Colorado, got snowed in 1 winter. The electricity was out and what kept him and the wife nice and toasty, cozy warm was the wood stove. I think he said he cooked burgers off of it. oh, and burning stuff is fun! :D "God" said, let us make man in our image.. Or, why not convert the coal to gasoline like Germany did for their air force in WW Two. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 333698Believe it or not, A.C., the older home we own has a coal cellar or bin as they used to call them. We had the old coal stove removed when we had the new system installed. |

Quoting: PollyannuhI just ordered the last fill-up of our contracted $2.47 per gallon oil which we prepaid last July or August. Out of curiosity I asked what their street price is today. $3.99.9 she said. Incredibly, with just another $1 jump we will pay well over $6000 for oil heat this coming season. We have done so much already to conserve I have no idea what else to do other than take in boarders. I'm worried not only for ourselves, but many of my older relatives who are already living fixed incomes with little to spare. This is going to be a horrible year for many, I'm afraid. This maybe a stupid question, but why do you guys use oil? Isn't nat. gas cheaper and more efficient For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. |

If I was looking down the barrel of a 6000.00 heating bill, I would look to the woodburning stove, or fireplace option. This problem is only going to get worse in the future. Quoting: Phoenix 2012Peace to you. yeah, here in michigan you can get ten cord of wood for $1000 and an awesome woodstove for the same and have to keep your windows open to keep from over heating "By way of deception, thou shalt do war." I almost missed your post. You know, that thought occured to me, too. They DO know that many won't be able to afford home heating oil, just as they know many can't afford the gas prices right now. Couple that with the foreclosures on homes and the outrageous rise of prices on food stuffs and other commodities and hey, we're on the verge of something nasty. What's in the wind?? What on earth is in the wind for us? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 383623 United States 05/19/2008 10:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in the north-east and i hear where you are coming from. I have city gas but when I had a trailer I had home-heating oil and I remember one night in the freezing whether when I ran out of oil and my daughter was about a year old. I had to put sheets around the kitchen (remember trailers mostly have the kitchen area opening into the living room area) and because I had cooking has for my stove I was able to keep my daughter warm. I know this is dangerous but what else can you do on a bitter cold night. If HHO goes up like what you say, ppl will be forced to make do and I can predict many house fires as ppl go back to kerosene heaters (been that route as well) and space heaters and using the stove for heat. I don't think the ones with wood stoves will do much better as firewood has been getting more and more expensive as well. And I am thinking of the elderly, sick and children in the winter as well like you are. Heating assistance is down to nothing these days. Up here for the past few years they will give you 100gal HHO if you qualify and that's IT. While anything at all is welcome, what are you supposed to do when that 100/gals runs out. My tank was 250gal so that wouldn't even be 1/2 tank. I think we better prepare for the cold weather as well as we can can by putting plastic on the windows, using weather striping, and closing off rooms we don't really need :shaking head sadly: |
