They committed a shit ton of $$ into the project with the understanding that future purchase's (to the tune of 9 billion $$) would be forthcoming to replace the CF18 Hornet. Canada pulled out of the deal when a new government got in and lost a significant portion of the initial investment. I thought that was a stupid move. Why did we pull out of the deal and lose all that $$? Then it came down the pipe that we pulled out because the chips and some components were manufactured in the PRC and that there were fears that the AC could be compromised. Aaaaand here we are lol. (Also if I recollect correctly, there was some kerfuffle over that 9 billion price tag being inflated to 16 billion that was taking into account the cost of fuel accessories and pilots wages.) |
