They have techno'ed up and qualitied down new vehicles to the point that they are rolling piles of disposable plastic junk that is cheaper to replace than to repair. And they are far from cheap to replace. 50K for a Tacoma? I will just keep my old 2003 Superduty until the engine conks out. Then I will replace the engine.

That 6.0l, for some, once you fix a couple issues, fuel pump, rail, etc. is a great engine.

I still have a 97 Crew Cab 4x4 LB 7.3l. It is a damn tank. I inherited it with only 58k miles on it last year.

It rides like shit, noisy as hell, but it is a solid truck

Mine was the last of the 7.3l. People offer to buy it for cash routinely. Not for sale!

Toyota was right all along on this one. They limit their EV push to primarily Lexus (Luxury EXport to US).

I've seen a LOT of youtube trader vids saying exactly this.

They're also reporting that even luxury brands like Porsche are once again dropping £20k+ off new cars because people just aren't buying.

This is what happens when you spook people SO MUCH about a major societal crash that they just bunker down.

They did this to themselves. This is developing into a negative acceleration cycle.

If they don't stop pushing these agendas on people so hard they're going to find the apparatus of their technocratic empire collapses before they get a chance to implement it.

I've said it before when the crash comes even Blackrok won't have enough money to bail all these companies out.

You can still get car loans without too much trouble, though the interest rates are higher. Key driver is that people have less money due to overall inflation, meaning they try to keep their cars longer.

It's not about being spooked. Apart from doomers on GLP, most people go about their lives with normalcy bias. It's just that inflation has been eating into their income big time.

Just came back from Longo Toyota/Lexus in greater Los Angeles area. They are quite possibly the largest Toyota dealer in the country.

They are awash with cars. You can get $10k off a new NX Plug in Hybrid without even asking.

Last year, you had to beg to be on the waiting list.

A $65k brand new Lexus is now $55k and soon to be $50k by early next year. Don't believe me? Just check their website and you will see 1200 new Lexus for sale...

I've been following Small SUV prices in my area in Ohio for the last six months. There hasn't been any decline here.

Admittedly...Ohio is known as a strange state that is less prone to price swings. house prices probably rose less than half here than they have in other parts of the country.

i'm wondering if there is geographic data tied to car prices?

I still don't understand how this is going to work in Europe. About 60% of the population live in apartments - are they gonna have cables hanging out over every balcony dropping down to the street, running 500 yards down the road to the first parking space they could find..

It's ridiculously impractical unless you have a nice personal garage and a driveway.

Most of the cobalt needed to manufacture EV batteries is mined by child labor in the congo (DRC). Child labor is being utilized in cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to meet the demand for EV vehicles.

This young children will be LOSING THEIR JOBS! How will these children survive if auto manufacturers slow EV production? How will these children support their families? What else can 8, 9 and 10 year olds do for work?

Biden must do something, or these kids will be unemployed and not able to work 80 hours a week! Biden should mandate that every American turn in their gas cars and purchase EV vehicles now so these children will not lose thier jobs.

Yep, inflation in things to keep your car running. Such as tires, maintenance, car insurance, wear and tear, and other unexpected shit.

Those costs add up especially when inflation is running hot, which PREVENTS people from buying new cars because those costs, especially INSURANCE, run much much higher than an old car.

Therefore, because of insurance, people cannot afford to buy new cars.

I guess you will get it too!

Looking at smaller SUVs like Jeeps Compass/Renegade.

Let's say a MSRP of a 2022 Jeep was 26-28K. Used with miles on them they are still asking 22-24K. Before Biden, a two year old used car with 30K on it would be down over 30% in two years.

When I left the business, a base Jetta S in 2019 was $18,545. This was the redesigned model, so the old 2.0 base was no longer available. Of course, that new price tag was nearly impossible to find, as it was also a stick with zero factory or port options. You can get the same Unicorn today for $22,500.
