They have techno'ed up and qualitied down new vehicles to the point that they are rolling piles of disposable plastic junk that is cheaper to replace than to repair. And they are far from cheap to replace. 50K for a Tacoma? I will just keep my old 2003 Superduty until the engine conks out. Then I will replace the engine.

I've been following Small SUV prices in my area in Ohio for the last six months. There hasn't been any decline here.

Admittedly...Ohio is known as a strange state that is less prone to price swings. house prices probably rose less than half here than they have in other parts of the country.

i'm wondering if there is geographic data tied to car prices?

Book values and auction prices have dropped a lot (I attend the auto auction’s)

There is normally a drop in November, and December, but this year’s drop off is more significant. Come January, and tax time, there will be a slight increase in prices. the real gauge to me, will be how long tax season prices are sustained, should prices start dropping again before March 15, that would be an indicator to me of a very weak market

Overall agree though, market is down

Used vehicles right now are expensive as F. Basically so much so you might as well buy new if you can.

Not necessarily, I've lost 2K on selling my SUV to Carmax around Chicago, by waiting a month.
According to the rep, the new car inventory is improving, so less need for the used vehicles.

I still don't understand how this is going to work in Europe. About 60% of the population live in apartments - are they gonna have cables hanging out over every balcony dropping down to the street, running 500 yards down the road to the first parking space they could find..

It's ridiculously impractical unless you have a nice personal garage and a driveway.

The sales side (or variable operations) in the Retail Automotive sector is car-shing. Service (fixed ops) isn't fairing much better...

 Quoting: Stumpknocker

People are learning that modern cars, with all their bells and whistles, complex electronics, safety systems, engine control, sensors, on and on are a terrible liability, even when under manufacturers warranty. After 7 years the car has little value.

The features (often mandated) on the very latest cars are going to make them impossible to repair outside the dealer network. Manufacturers have screwed themselves by going down the road of leasing car almost like a rental.

An EV truck is strictly a rich mans toy, a third or forth vehicle for blue collar wealth that can absorb the loss via write offs and exspenses, a Rancher or well to do Farmer. Over all they are the second scam of the century, covid being the first scam.

I have no idea why anyone would go all electric when you can buy a hybrid.

Well, when people are asking $26,000 for 1996 F250s with 220,000 miles on them, and $16,500 for 1998 Tacomas with 300,000 miles, there's a problem.

And in general, everyone will to bend over, get reamed in the ass, and get ripped off, has already done it.

The rest of us said fuck this shit, I guess I won't be buying a car or truck

The taxes are nuts in La Frontera (away from the border). Close to the border other rules apply.

They have a bunch of different models down there and Toyota does have a no frills, kinda like a military truck, seat, steering wheel, heater and turn signals, thats about it for 10k ish.

YOU CANNOT REGISTER THEM IN THE UNITED STATES. Only good for after the SHTF

A crashing automotive sector is one of the big factors that finally kicked the 2008 recession off. Automotive impacts countless other industries if it's not performing well.

By 2035 entire North America and EU will ban fossil fuel vehicle from roads, this in 11 years ahead, maybe by 2030 will manufacture and sell EVs only and could be hard to find parts. I would not spend tens of thousands for a new traditional auto, by the time you finish paying it, will go to scrap metal.

That's exactly what we said when we saw the data.

"Early Adopters" have run out.

If I lived somewhere that i needed an HOV lane tag, i might have one. Some are fun to drive, they haul ass.

As an expert in automotive, I have said for years, pre-hype, that EV's are not the answer.

There are many alternatives out there and combustion (localized power plants, i.e.; engines) cannot be replaced. A vehicle must GENERATE it's own power, NOT STORE IT!

Now, since nuclear fusion is a few years away, we must think of other stuff like:

Synthetic Gasoline
Natural Gas (methane)
and another shorter term solution:

HYDROGEN. Hydrogen will create other problems once it is widely used as a byproduct of it is water vapor. Once you put a bunch of water vapor in the atmosphere, I'm sure someone will find a way to bitch about they humidity being higher
