Being careful and setting up your air defenses is good. Preempting your opponent is better.

You figure our who is backing your opponent (Pakistan is backed by U.S... and, although Chinese believe that Pakistan is their natural ally against India, it really isn't), and they you threaten the backer (U.S.), not the actual opponent (Pakistan).

In other words... the best possible move for Iran right now is to threaten the destruction of U.S. CENTOM in Qatar, if Pakistan launches (any kind of serious) attack on Iran.

China will be happy to back Iran in that threat (U.S. CENTCOM is a more valuable piece on the board than Iranian oil... which is oil that is also being used by Europe... and yes, by China, too, but NATO is just about to nuke Russia on U.S. behalf, and China won't have any access to Iranian oil past that point, anyway), and U.S. can't possibly afford to lose its command center in the Middle East at this moment (U.S. may choose to sacrifice that piece in some future move, once positional advantage of that move becomes obvious, but right now? not a chance).

In short, Iran is still in a strategic position vastly superior to any other power currently operating in the region (Pakistan, U.S., Israel, Saudi Arabia, etc...).

It's just a question of whether Iranians will know how to properly utilize that strategic advantage.

So far, they've been exceeding my expectations (which have been extremely low, after I'd seen all the morons on Earth doing their moronic things... U.S., Russian, Chinese, and Israeli morons in particular).
