Can anyone explain to me the origin of the phrase "well 'ard" and what it's supposed to mean

Well hard, as in hard as nails. Chadism basically, but it's usually meant sarcastically. Like most things English.

Do you at it like a name
"Wellard" altogether

Or do you say it like
WELL ARRD like a pirate

Or just WELL HARD but yet work twice as hard to not say the H in hard so it feels like your stroking a little bit and others might discern the same?
