The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the presidential power to pardon in ex parte Garland, an 1866 case involving a former Confederate senator who had been pardoned by President Andrew Johnson. In that case, the high court made clear that the pardon power “extends to every offense known to the law, and may be exercised at any time after its commission, either before legal proceedings are taken or during their pendency, or after conviction and judgment.”... |

Good point No, a pardon is something bestowed upon you and no one ever said you do not have to accept it and it does not indicate an admission of guilt. DC is a weird place, the laws are different from other parts of the county. Not defending trump beginning to be wary, however, there may have been a good reason why he didn't pardon them. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 86036956 United States 02/18/2024 10:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Trump considered blanket pardons for Jan. 6 rioters before he left office Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85336419 [link to www.politico.com (secure)] He considered lots of things. He was THIS CLOSE to doing lots of things that would have been really effective. And he left us hanging time after time. I don't see how I can vote for Biden after his open-door policy at the border. But in a lot of ways Trump was less effective than Biden. Did you realize that Biden INTENTIONALLY forced government employees to get the vax to keep their lifetime government safe jobs, but he rigged it so that private employers could not mandate the vax? He rigged it by putting an incompetent agency in charge of the private employer mandate (but the right agency in charge of the government mandate), less than a year after SCOTUS had ruled in another case that when an incompetent agency is in charge under a regulation, that regulation should be overturned. And that's exactly how they ruled again. The employer mandate was overturned, but the government employee mandate was upheld. Biden is very sneaky. And sometimes in a good way. He's not always against you. He has a wicked sense of humor, yes he's wicked, and yes he's elderly. Whereas Trump makes you think he's thinking whatever you're thinking, but then you have repeated coitus interruptus when he doesn't drive things home in the key moment. |
