As the serious threat looms, serious question for pondering...is infantry combat scary, per se? Can you ever be mentally prepared enough?

Infantry are needed.. and I dont put down their contribution in any way, in fact, they are necessary for success.

But bombs, bullets, shrapnel, AI, drones, guidance systems, satellites, etc...make their job almost obsolete, and puts them in extreme danger 24/7.

I mean look at all the Russia/Ukraine vids from both sides...people just getting obliterated without any warning, because the weapon systems are so advanced now. A tank? might as well be a coffin. Hiding in a trench? Sorry, drone saw you from above and dropped an explosive on you.

I think that has been the case, traditionally.
However, with modern drone warfare, and the avg IQ of avg modern infantry, infantry is just "meat" these days, more often than not.

Droning or steamrolling through America is a lot easier said than done. They "can" drone anyone anywhere but that costs 50k+ a pop

I think droning will be used, not as effectively as in other nations, for various reasons.
However, with the large populations and critical infrastructure of american commerce, i think the plan of action, moving fwd, will be to use a lot more foot patrol than wars abroad. The purpose, again, being to preserve infrastructure, as it costs to rebuild. Costs are up, these days.

Thriving and loving are two different things. Would claim to know neither, minus the experience.
