My heart and prayers go out to this family. Twenty three years ago, my seven children 9mo-13 yr. were removed. They still suffer from the abuse in foster care. These children need much prayer.

there are many cases of physical abuse by parents
unfortunately, there seems to be a trend in the media of picking out those cases where the children are homeschooled... thus tarnishing the image, and giving the false impression that only homeschooled children are abused...

There is no doubt that child abuse is rampant. It's sickening. It's tragic that some fall through the cracks. We must help all we can, and put pressure on the governing agencies to protect the children. Our system isn't perfect, but it's better than Afghanistan, India, Thailand, Mexico, all African countries, Romania, Russia, Honduras, Brazil, you get my drift... most other countries. It's not the kids or they system that is the problem. It's the parents. People need to learn at a young age how to deal with other people in order to be functioning adults.

What's the answer? License parenthood, teach parenting in schools, end poverty... it is a deep social issue, and that can't be dealt with if there is a prevailing attitude that everyone is out to get you. Solutions... think.... participate. Complaining achieves nothing but breeds more anger & abuse.

Hey no fear... but apparently lots of ignorance, There is no reason that any Jewish person would not immunize their kids. But that is almost besides the point.

These kids where horrible abused not to mention neglected by both parents. They had 3 kids taken form them in 1993 and that is the only reason they did not go to doctors or have ss#, the parents where on the run as they knew from what happened in Alaska that any future kids would be at least monitored. The kids do not even have birth certificates!!!!!!!!For all we know they could have killed a couple along the way, who would really know? Or should I say disciplined to death, is that what is PC here?

Maybe, no info in the article you read, there are others that had plenty, including allegations that the father (I use the term loosely) strangled a goat that was a family pet, in front of the kids. Also the actual counts from the grand jury can be found on line.

Waiting to know the truth before slamming either side seems to be the right thing to do, but of course that is not nearly as entertaining as jumping to a conclusion, (especially an anonymous one!) I bet most of you would jump on the soapbox if one of these kids died before the state interviened, especially if you found out there was an active investigation.

I find it, well... crazy, that so many of the posters here really think there is a government plot against home schooling or religion or not immunizing. Yes, there really is a government plot! It is a plot to PREVENT child abuse. And it's the sign of a civilized society to prevent harm to those who are weak and helpless. Anyone who thinks this is a bad policy might just have something to hide. It might be a good time for everyone to consider if what is going on behind closed doors in their own homes would stand up to a public airing. I am not talking about a momentary laps in judgment or an occasional blow up, or even the occasional but necessary butt smack either. I mean over all on a daily bases 24/7 is the way we parent be moral and socially acceptable? Most important, are we providing our kids with a healthy physical and emotional environment?
