From what I saw he was pushing it trying to set up his son for a Daytona victory. I think it was as simple as that.

I do not see that Sterling moved up into Earnhardt.

I find the suicide theory implausible. His seat belt was improperly mounted.

he was blocking for waltrip and jr. and got wrecked. he, like many others, died because of the impact. it's racing. it happens. luckily the safer barriers and hans have now been developed and have saved many lives since his death.

Did they find a knife in his car....no. I think when he got "tapped" sideways he turned his head at just the right angle to try and see who hit him, and then he went into the wall. He just barely hit the wall and snapped his neck, that's why I think his neck was turned around to see who bumped him. Simple as that, just bad luck is all.

During every Daytona 500 since 2001 there is a discussion in our household related to Dale's accident. There was an interview with one of the EMT's who made the statement that he cut the seat belt to free Dale Earhardt - after that you didn't hear anymore on that subject, next thing - NASCAR is placing blame on Simpson. If you go back a few seasons prior to that and recall that there was a race in which Dale flipped several times and had reported injuries. Thereafter, there were other occassions in which he blacked out(supposed carbon monixoide issues in vehilcle) then other races in which there were similar causes. My husband really feels that Dale had suffered from serious concussions (like what put out Steve Young; Troy Aitkman; Trent Green out of football) and that all it was going to take is one more incident to cause death and that NASCAR was aware of this risk and still approved him to run. This could create a plausible opening for conspiracy. For whateve reason, Dale was blocking to give Dale Jr. and Michael Waltrip the opportunity to win and this was completely contrary to the way that Dale Earnhardt raced - which was to do whatever it took to win and take out whoever was in the way. Just ask Terry Labonte, as he said with Dale NASCAR'S rules were written in pencil so they could simply erase them for Dale's benefit. My husband has been on me to find a forum to post and I have done so for him. Maybe it was just his time. Didn't like the way he raced for most of his career, I will only say that toward the end he did become more personable and seemed to finally seem to "get" that there was more to life.

He was murdered by Sterling Marlin. He tapped him perfectly knowing it would turn Dale perpendicular/head-on with the wall.

every year drivers get an exam b4 the season starts and dale sr was most likely diagnosed with a terminal illness. all he ever wanted was to drive and now his time was short and nascar would pull his license to race. he drove reckless in both the iroc race and the 500 that weekend. what would be better to go out than having both of your cars battling for the win and you running blocker. the belts were purposely loosened by dale to go out at the place he called home.

I always wondered if he had some kind of event. Being so excited at such a big win about to happen maybe a heart attack?? No one could tell with his chest injuries. It did not seem like he tried to avoid the crash to me. I did not see the kind of overcorrection you would expect to see at that speed. He would never have commited suicide and risked the life of all of the other drivers behind him like that. This is right up there with the 911 conspiracy theories.
