She has totally energized Obama's base in a way I don't think Romney or Pawlenty could. On various political forums I've seen all types of people say they contacted their local Obama campaign office to see what they can do to volunteer. Obama raised over 10 million dollars in 24 hours. Palin may think she is the All-American woman, but there are many Americans who don't see her condescending, snarky, hyper-religious, arch-conservative, Annie Oakley persona as being American at all. The more she speaks the better Obama will do in the end. However, it looks like McCain is not going to let her do any interviews. She was immediately shipped back to Alaska, no press were allowed to question her about anything over the past week. Strange that the American public can't ask a person a question who is vying to lead our country. And as you see, the DOW is dropping. It is in reaction to the RNC. Unlike, the gun toting, honky tonk, bigots who adore Palin, the guys on wall street are smart, they went to good schools not Idaho community colleges. They know their free ride is over because the election is all but over for McCain. Their corporate welfare and handouts from Republicans are in jeopardy. |

He went to Ivy League schools. He's an attorney. He's in Congress -- but he stammers like a schoolboy when he has to articulate his own thoughts. His facade drops like a stone when he doesn't have a script. He's self-conscious, he stutters, and his mind wanders. It's like he's searching for an answer that will work for the interview. I don't like the guy, but even I find it hard to watch. I think this happens to him because there is a disconnect between how he really feels and what he thinks the interviewer or the crowd should hear. It's like his mind short-circuits because he knows he can't verbalize what is the truth for him. |

The Bizarro universe where I think critically and don't take for face value everything the MSM says. Do you know how many polls say the race is in a dead heat? Only one. The CBS poll. And yesterday I saw about 5 reportes mention it without referring to the poll title. Gallup shows Obama leading as he has always lead. The same CBS poll a week before showed Obama had a 8 point lead, which was completely untrue based on every othe available polling data. Obama only had a 2-3 point lead. However, national leads don't matter too much, the electoral college matters. And right now there is no way McCain can make up for his deficits in key swing states, especially after the debates. |

Clearly, he is just the kind of guy who is never going to admit he is wrong on something. Remind you of anyone? Say, for example, George W. Bush? Also, I found it ironic that a Democrat said it would be unwise to tip your hand in dealing with Iran when he is from a party of people who were demanding a timeline for an Iraqi withdrawal from Bush. (OP) User ID: 366950 United States 09/05/2008 10:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Palin Power: Fresh Face Now More Popular Than Obama, McCain Friday, September 05, 2008 Email to a FriendAdvertisement A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom. The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view (full demographic crosstabs are available for Premium Members). Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her. The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain’s choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden. Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%. There is a strong partisan gap when it comes to perceptions of Palin. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of Republicans give her favorable reviews along with 33% of Democrats and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major party. She earns positive reviews from 65% of men and 52% of women. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows that Obama continues to lead McCain among women voters while McCain leads among men. The Friday morning update—the first to include interviews conducted after Palin’s speech--showed the beginning of a Republican convention bounce that may match Obama’s bounce from last week. Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans believe that most reporters are trying to hurt Palin’s campaign, a fact that may enhance her own ratings. (Want a free daily e-mail update? Sign up now. If it's in the news, it's in our polls. Get our daily update and we’ll let you know what voters really think.) The Palin pick has also improved perceptions of John McCain. A week ago, just before he introduced his running mate, just 42% of Republicans had a Very Favorable opinion of their party’s nominee. That figure jumped to 54% by this Friday morning. Among unaffiliated voters, favorable opinions of McCain have increased by eleven percentage points in a week—from 54% before the Palin announcement to 65% today. Fifty-one percent (51%) of all voters now believe that McCain made the right choice when he picked Palin to be his running mate while 32% disagree. By way of comparison, on the night after Biden gave his acceptance speech, 47% said that Obama made the right choice. Eighty-one percent (81%) of Republicans say that McCain made the right choice while just 69% of Democrats said the same about Obama. Among unaffiliated voters, 52% said that McCain made the right choice for his running mate and 45% said the same about Obama. Forty percent (40%) now say that Palin is ready to be President, if necessary. That’s up from 29% last week. Forty-nine percent (49%) say the same about Biden. However, following the Wednesday night speech, voters are fairly evenly divided as to whether Palin or Obama has the better experience to be President. Forty-four percent (44%) of voters say Palin has the better experience while 48% say Obama has the edge. Among unaffiliated voters, 45% say Obama has better experience while 42% say Palin. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of voters say that Palin’s speech helped McCain’s chances of becoming President while only 10% believe it hurt those prospects. While Palin’s numbers are stunning today, it remains to be seen how the Alaska Governor’s numbers will hold up through the next two months. She has made a tremendous first impression, but the country will get to know her a lot better between now and November. User ID: 433953 United Kingdom 09/05/2008 10:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP the McCain/Palin team are going to have to pull more rabbits out of the hat if they are going to appeal to new and young voters. Have you looked at the demographics of your country and age groups? Many young voters do not have a clue about politics and they believe the stories they are being told just like they did in the UK when New Labour were elected. They were not old enough to remember the three day week, national strikes that nearly brought down the country, 20% interest rates etc etc.... I only watched a part of the McCain speech but from my perspective it will not attract young voters that have not voted before or those that can't make up their minds. What is important is that young voters do vote and truly know what they are voting for. Let us hope that Palin will reach out to those young voters because she is close to it and understands what the young people need and require. Words of defending the country won't work because many young ones believe all is conspiracy and propaganda and this has been part of the TPTB' strategy to help undermine the nation. Pailin should write her own speeches, always be true to self and as we have seen from old videos she can then reach the hearts of those that are waiting to meet her and find out more about her. McCain is going to have to sharpen up his act and also address young people. To young people McCain is very very old and the young ones will be saying they want someone younger to represent them and the country. The Republicans must reform the inner as well as the outer if they are to win this campaign and the RNC image (apart form Palin) was tired and very 20th century. I applaud them for not wasting money on glamour and using the RNC for trying to raise money for others in need. Palin will have a big job on her hands to create the inner platform that can reach creative minds and hearts. She will have to appeal to those who have a dream and those that do not dream about their potential at all. She will have to appeal to the American Spirit that is 21st century. She has the ability to do it and can do it well if she doesn't listen to party spin doctors and speech makers. She also has a job to do to WAKE UP AMERICA and catapult people out of apathy and 20th century thinking. If McCain and Palin speak from their hearts to the nation about a modern 21st century America then they could win this election with the right policies. They have to start talking to the people about the issues that really matter to them and Palin has been much closer to the people in the community n recent years than McCain. It is clear who the media are backing and their power to swing voters cannot be underestimated. The race is on and as a bystander it will be interesting to watch the performance of both sides and how they adapt to the target audience and the flexibility that they show. If I was McCain/Palin I would not be telling the people what I am going to give them but ask them to work together with us and build the policies and plans together.I would concentrate on the immediate priorities and explain to the electorate the reasons why we have to concentrate on the essentials first. I would be engaging the voters in developing the new vision for America. When the people are involved partners in the process of reform and recreation then they are empowered and those that lead have truly given the power back to the people.
