From US Rep Nick Lampson on local TV (ABC13 Houston)

Too little communication. FEMA too big. Too large of a beauracracy.

Praising county judge and mayors

Expressing concern about outlying communities to Galveston/Houston.

Distribution of MRE's coming.

He does not know when additional fuel will arrive.

re: Bolivar - He hasn't been told #fatalities. No idea of why media is being kept out of Bolivar. Process should be open.

Basic supplies not in place before hurricane.

re: Orange/Bridge City - Totally impassable

Interview just finished. ABC13

Are there any Google satellite photos yet? I'd look myself but I'm on dial up and it would take forever. Post em if you got em.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but, don't wast your time doing the Google satellite. Those images are usually a year or 3 behind the time...Definitely not real time.

However, I do know that Russia at one time did offer semi-real time space imaging of Earth...

Anyone?

Granted, it's all second hand information but we have heard from a local fireman, a local policeman, and a resident still on the island (that identified 2 dead themselves) that the death toll is extremely high... and that they are just sitting on it until the hysteria dies down.

The first account comes from a fireman on the island that said he had never seen so many dead bodies before.

The second from a friends boyfriend who happens to be a police officer, who has said they have gathered so many dead and are keeping it hush for now.

And the third from a resident on the island that discovered some dead in one of the local businesses on 23rd.

I don't wish to add to the hysteria, but I find it horrible that the news is being complicate in not reporting the death tolls to the public. It's criminal.

WOW this thread really bloomed.
Good info... EVERYONE!
I will put together a list of what I am taking. Anyone want to scrutinize it feel free. Will post it in a few.
Also, I heard (remember my inlaws are in my house and are on the phone constantly) that I may be Wednesday before I can go, another source said next week.

Oh and thanks for the pin.

Something about this whole thing stinks.

The Fed is saying the "rescued" 2000 people but only 9 people have died? So am I to guess they have almost a 2000% success rate as far as rescues vs deaths? Some number is off either the number rescued or the number dead or both.

On one of the many threads on Ike one poster said that the mayor of Galveston took too long to make up her mind from stay to go and when she said to leave it was already too late.

Don't know how true that is but I remember reading that by a person there or near there. I don't remember which thread.

Was anyone else watching the KHOU feed on Directv earlier tonite? They were showing live video from the station Helo was they flew over Galveston and Bolivar.

My God. The devastation is absolutely horrific. Galveston was hit hard but was saved from total destruction by the seawall. Still, incredible damage and flooding is very evident. But Bolivar has nearly been WIPED OUT. The maps will have to be redrawn. Practically every single home and business has been destroyed in Crystal Beach, Gilchrist, and High Island. These little communities are gone, GONE.

Unless every single person out there left the peninsula, which is highly unlikely, then there's no way anyone could have survived. The death toll HAS to be in the hundreds, if not thousands.

And yet, there is an absolute news blackout across the board on this. An Houston is on the verge of total collapse. People will soon be rioting for the basics, gas, food, ice, water.

This makes Katrina look like a picnic.

One of the stories from that link:

"By Chris Paschenko - The Galveston Daily News @ Saturday, September 13, 2008 8:11 PM
Bolivar Peninsula communities were covered by the storm surge from Hurricane Ike’s early Saturday landfall, and residents told harrowing stories of how they survived by floating until the waters receded.

Texas National Guard helicopters flew many of the evacuees from across the county to a staging area at the Texas City school district’s Stingaree Stadium parking lot, where they were loaded onto buses bound for Austin.

Two military helicopters landed at 3:50 p.m. and unloaded about a dozen people and their pets.

While waiting to board a bus, Kathi Norton and her husband Paul Norton said they endured the storm surge from their Crystal Beach home about two blocks from the seaside.

”We got a late start to get out Friday, and there was two feet of water,” Kathi Norton said. “There was no way we could get out, because rollover pass was flooded.”

As the waves pounded on the Nortons’ home standing on 14-foot stilts, they felt the floors buckle.

About midnight, the couple left the home and they watched as it rolled over onto their flagpole.

”We floated on staircases, anything we could get a hold of,” Kathi Norton said. “We floated until about 4 a.m. Roofs were coming at us. It was not a pretty picture.”

As the water receded, the Nortons, who lived on Gulf Shores Drive, waded in waist-deep surf to the Crystal Beach post office. They said few homes and none of the businesses withstood the storm.

”My husband made me wear a life jacket inside our house,” Norton said. “Thank God for that or I couldn’t be here.”

The Nortons boarded Texas National Guard helicopters, which flew them to the Brazoria County airport, but there were no evacuation buses set up there, Paul Norton said.

”Then they flew us to Texas City,” he said. “They did a great job.”

Nigel Heinrich, one of the evacuees, said he endured the storm from his Gilchrist home on the peninsula.

”It’s all gone,” he said. “We lived on the bay side, and we walked to High Island. There are only about two or three houses left. Everything’s totally wiped out. High Island’s in pretty bad shape, too.”

I'd take some 3%hydrogen peroxide to clean your nose and ears and brush teeth with in case biologicals are loose. The nose and ears requires Qtips of course to swab them with peroxide. nNeed this to bubble out any nails or splinters multipurpose more than betadine.First aid pack which should include triple antibiotic and eye wash due to insulation might get in eyes or at least get Visine to wash with. If you are into colloidal silver protectant and have it would take it protectively as sure best not to get diarrhea in primitive situation.Might take some antidiarrheal and Benadryl 50 mg caps. If scenes are so bad you can't sleep you can use the Benadryl to calm down and also for bee stings or any allergic situation.Seriously would check out the situation rumors on that biolab 4 and consider it might have gotten loose in flood waters.Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day I would recommend far over Cipro which tears up joints and you aren't supposed to do any labor while taking it due to the issues or jog or anything plus the seizures issues.Doxycycline hits anthrax and has the same coverage as Cipro and is cheap.Should be able to get an rx for Doxycycline 100mg BID for 10 days from a doctor friend easy.
