It torques me off that the "general population" of the US doesn't like the idea of the draft, but will sit comfortably on their asses and criticize EVERYTHING about the troops who are bloodied and badgered with injuries that are criticized as well.

American's CAN NOT have it both ways. MAYBE if there's a threat that YOUR child would be FORCED into this situation, you (or one) may stop and think about how it can be STOPPED. It's always easier when it's "someone else's kid" and SOME (ahem) Mom's are sick and tired of the emotional losses as well as the physical ones.

I for one, am so tired of not being heard when I "spout off" about how angry I am and about how hard it is to see such dramatic changes in MY SON, due to his service to a country that couldn't give two shits about him. And he's still ALIVE! I can't even imagine the feelings of grief and betrayal of those who have LOST a family member.

It's bad enough that the soldiers have to deal with society's apathy. They can't fathom the idea that my son has to deal with the effects of SEVENTEEN concussions from IED's......and all of the political tripe around this crap. If more people would engage with helping and with understanding instead of just sweeping their feelings about this under the carpet or allowing themselves to be "reassured" by their freeking pastor every Sunday morning that this is all part of God's plan somehow.......I have a funny hunch things would change in a HURRY!

by voting you endorse the system, you are playing the game and helping those in power. anyone who trys to run for office who doesnt follow the rules is rubbed out or destoyed in the public eye. voting is just an excercise to keep the masses feeling like they have power, they dont, they have owners.

voting may or may not actually elect your leadership, but voting is (IMHO) the equivalent of voice. If you don't vote.....you relinquish your right to bitch about the state of affairs, nationally and locally.

Frankly, I could care less whether or not "my vote" really counts. My neighbor probably votes directly opposite of what I vote. I suppose I could take the stand that it wouldn't matter if I vote or not because "he" will cancel my vote anyway.......how stupid!

I'm not going to chose to do the wrong thing because someone else does. My part is to vote, their part is to count the votes. If they choose not to, that's not my fault. You might be surprised at how much of a "sheep" I am NOT. I've been around long enough to know EXACTLY how the Republican party (back in the Regan days) exercised a "grass roots" plan to quietly elect individuals who followed a particular "right wing" policy view, to the Central Committees all over the country. WOW.....20+ years later.....we have the representation of all that effort running for VP. Hmmmmmmmm It's been a QUIET PLAN that most have been unaware of.

The war in Iraq was started on the premise that it would be over quickly and pay for itself. It won't end until rich republicans have to ante up taxes to pay for it, and have to send their children to fight in it.

Reinstate the draft.

Balance the budget.
