Lucifer Has Fallen

Lucifer is commonly associated with the prince of darkness; the adversary, the serpent, the Devil, a.k.a. Satan. Only in the last few decades has this association been challenged. The secular world and even many Christians will contend that Lucifer is a misnomer and a poor translation of scripture [1]. After much study I have come to realize that there isn't conclusive Biblical evidence either way. Still I tend to side with many centuries of tradition, but there are convincing arguments otherwise [2]. This is such a heated and endless debate because both sides are right. The name Lucifer applies to both Satan and the fallen kings of the earth, through the common bond of idolatry.

It wasn't until the fourth century A.D. that this name was even used in the Bible. It was first introduced by Saint Jerome in his Latin Vulgate and later preserved by the dedicated scholars and linguists that produced the King James Version. The interesting part is that Lucifer appeared in St. Jerome's translation several times [3] but now occurs in the Holy Sciptures only once. And even then, very few of the modern translations have maintained this choice of wording. Before I continue, let's take a look at where this unholy name appears in the KJV:

This is a very powerful progression of verses. A picture begins to emerge which is used repeatedly throughout God's Word; that of a man so full of self-idolizing power that he becomes consumed with the desire to become like the most High and ascend into heaven to exalt his throne above the stars of God. This man is blinded by his own light, his vision clouded by an unsatiable hunger for power. Although he can't see it, it is made crystal clear where he is headed. Does that remind you of anyone? That's right, the Antichrist. Remember, Satan controls the spirit of antichrist and will take an earthly host to complete his dirty work

Especially when much of our Christian walk is merely disguised tradition ... our relationship, disguised routine ... our coming and going, disguised culture ... our coming together for fellowship, being locked into the trappings of Sunday mornings ... or our spiritual growth, being hooked into serving special days?

At the beginning of the early church age the first day of the week was Saturday night after 6.00 pm (supper time) following the weekly sabbath. The book of Romans declares only those who are weak in the faith (novices) place importance on one day above another (14:1). The New Testament also declares the believer free from the yoke of bondage, not having to serve the law in the oldness of the letter as in times past. Now we serve the Giver of the law, God Almighty Himself, not the mere shadow, and are not subject to observing days, and months, and times, and years according to Gal. 4:10. The things which pertain to bondage and coming under the law again. Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Palm Sunday, Mothers Day, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day (all Roman Catholic by the way) not only go beyond the abolished Jewish holy days, but cause revisionists to tamper with scripture in order to fit in, or camouflage imported paganistic practices. If the Jewish days are no longer valid for NT Bible believers then surely pagan days would even be even further outside the New Covenant, according to just 'good ole' commonsense and plain logic. Right!!

Following, we will see clearly how scripture exposes all this as a form of turning our backs on God. Where it is either solemnly or facilely replacing Him with a false deity to look to, or acknowledge in some way?

How does 1 Kings 18:21 apply today? "If the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him"!

After all, Baal worship is non existent today! Isn't it? Meaning, it is now defunct, having been superseded by other pagan and new age gods! Therefore, all the seventy odd verses, or more, giving reference to Baal in scripture are irrelevant and almost meaningless in today's society and church; wouldn't ya say?

Now is that so!!??

If scripture makes so much reference to Baal (with other umpteen variants to his name from Beel-zebub/Baal-zebub to Baal-aberin), even in the NT, would it not be prudent to find out why, and what this false god stood or stands for? As well as what relevance or connection it may have in these end times? And if it did ... how we could first discern its appearance and then avoid its trappings and pitfalls.
