A spine surgeon, gave a talk about bone density, and injuries. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 156750He said most people are deficient in vitamin d3 and calcium. People with low levels have soft bones, fractures are slower to heal. Patients that op out of serious back injury surgery have been put on vitamin d3 and calcium. Their fractures healed on their own. I saw the evidence --some x rays before and after. He recommends 1000 units a day. I've heard others say take 2000 units a day. He said 400 units won't do anything. I was also at a breast cancer conference and 3000 units a day was recommended for women. The calcium he recommends is calcium citrate. Not the carbonate type. More info [link to www.emaxhealth.com] You are confusing IUs with milligrams. Vit D (and E) is measured in International Units (IU). Calcium is measured in milligrams, not IU. When you write about "3000 units," it's ACTUALLY 3000 milligrams (or 3 grams) of calcium, NOT vit D. 3000 IU of vit. D is toxic and eventually fatal! 800-1000iu is a good dose. Also all your commas in this sentence are not needed: "A spine surgeon, gave a talk about bone density, and injuries." |

During the winter, I take one or two capsules a day, as per the instructions, which is about the recommended daily dose. |
