ALERT: FDA Advises People to STOP Eating Peanut Butter

The FDA and CDC are recommending that consumers not eat products containing peanut butter (such as cookies, crackers, cereal, candy, and ice cream) until information becomes available about whether those products are linked to an ongoing salmonella outbreak that may have contributed to six deaths.

At least 474 people in 43 states have been sickened by the outbreak strain of Salmonella typhimurium. Peanut butter has been associated with the outbreak. Peanut butter and peanut paste made by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) at a facility in Blakely, Ga., have already been recalled in the wake of the outbreak.

On January 16, the FDA asked food makers nationwide to check whether their peanut-containing products include a recalled peanut paste made by PCA and to recall or hold those products as a precaution.

Here is advice from the FDA and CDC for consumers:

* Don't eat recalled products. Throw them away in a manner that prevents others from eating them.
* Postpone eating other peanut butter containing products (such as cookies, crackers, cereal, candy, and ice cream) until information becomes available about whether that product may be affected.
* People who think they may have become ill from eating peanut butter are advised to consult their health care providers.

Thing is, peanut butter has insufficient moisture content to support growth of ANY bacteria, that's why it doesn't go bad sitting out. So WHO THE FUCK are these people getting sick from something that is microbiologically unlikely?

Anyways, most people get over salmonella with NO treatment.

"As a result of these updated test results, on January 16, PCA expanded its voluntary recall to include all peanut butter produced on or after August 8, 2008, and all peanut paste produced on or after September 26, 2008, in its Blakely, Ga., plant because of potential Salmonella contamination. The product being recalled is sold by PCA in bulk packaging in containers ranging in size from five to 1700 pounds. The peanut paste is sold in sizes ranging from 35-pound containers to product sold by the tanker container."

Peanuts have bugger all protein, and about ten times that more of fat, you can find traces of arsenic, lead, and other nasty`s in them!
They are the only nut that grows in soil, rather than a tree.
They are a bad food, you would be wiser to make nut butters from real nuts like Almonds, Walnuts, Brazil nuts, Hazels etc
The only thing going for peanuts is the price, even so you wont find this product in my kitchen.

go to a health food store and grind your own "peanut butter", BUT select ALMOND BUTTER instead. WAY better nutrition than peanut butter!

Actually he can safely eat peanut butter because it cannot grow salmonella nor any other bacteria.
