You did well especially handling .45's recoil.
Smart, thinking about home defense with the shotgun.
Most shotguns are useless in close quarters: hallways and going through doorways.
Try shot loads in that .45!
My advice: Get a bb or pellet gun that feels like the .45 and practice often. Hand-eye coordination is instinct after enough practice.
Past:
Taught a 5' 0-1/2" 105lb ex to shoot.
She was more accurate, in aimed fire, than me, in just a few hundred shots. With .22 .380 9mm and shotgun.
Taught her martial arts.
She kicked me in the nose and broke my nose.
I was so proud!
(my nose was nearly a foot over her head)

ALL women should be able and willing to defend themselves.
past:
Took one GF to Sheriff's for a Concealed Carry Permit.
She had a warrant.
They took her into custody and I called her ex to help me pay fine and arrange bail.
As she was being arrested, the desk Deputy said: "When she gets it cleared up; Give her the gun."
She still carries that AMT Backup now.
