The folks on your Jerry Springer re-runs are not typical either. Change the channel. |

Is this the norm over there? Not all of us are that way. However some are lazy, eat way too much and either spend way too much time in front of the computer, using their blackberry, or watching tv. Except for the pot smoking, you've described my soon to be ex sil to the T. She does not clean house, rarely cooks, sits in front of the computer playing world of warcraft for hours and hours (sometimes all freaking night) and expects to find and marry a rich man so she can continue to charge up thousand upon thousands of dollars on her credit cards (which she cannot afford to pay back right now). Her mommy had to go build her daughter a house because her daughter (my sil) was unhappy in her current marriage so she's moving out into this very nice house (which she will never be able to afford the utility bills unless she moves in someone that is rich) and taking my brother's ONLY child away from him. Let me tell you, I hope God will take care of her, with FIRE. |

Oh I meant to say that my stbx sil definitely NEEDS to be on SSRI's as when she gets unhappy, she blames everyone else especially the hubby or BF or whoever and dumps them and moves on. She is the type that uses outside sources in order to obtain happiness and cannot find it within herself. Yet the cycle repeats itself. (we did however warn my brother not to marry her as we knew this was going to happen). |

Is this the norm over there? Yes, it is completely normal in America after eight miserable years under George W. Bush and Dick(less) Cheney. You would probably end up in the same state of "complete decandence" if your country's trusted leaders: a) entered with a bang (9/11), and b) exited with a bang (the banking meltdown) AND *YES* I MOST DEFINITELY DO BLAME THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT FOR INSTIGATING BOTH (a) AND (b). So call me dysfunctional and "screwed up emotionally" for believing this. You say the chicken came before the egg, and I say the egg came before the chicken. Bush and Cheney should have been strung up by their penii from the nearest lamppost to the White House before they left it. |

Is this the norm over there? . You always have to be careful about casting to large a net when passing judgment on an entire country. I believe there are plenty of people that fit your profile, but there are many more here that do not. I live in a more remote area, people here are experiencing a little anxiety about the economy, but country people don't experience it the same way as city people do. For instance, most of us grow at least some of our own food. In addition, self-reliance is a big deal in the boonies and always has been. If you don't have every convenience under the sun you simply make do. Of course many of us are disillusioned by the behavior of our government over the last decade, and went through some soul-searching there. But the truth is that governments everywhere play pretty loose and free with people's lives. This kind of behavior is not new certainly globally. For those of us who didn't see our country as an exception to that rule, we're not as profoundly affected. I agree that the drug use is a serious problem. I'm not talking about pot here because I don't see that as being a big deal one way or the other. My concerns are the pharmaceuticals. I don't use drugs myself. I'm not trying to take the moral high ground here, I just don't. I think a lot of people got caught up in the myth that human suffering could be cured will a magic pill. I think that has caused way more harm than good. I know several people who take antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds. I blame the modern diet to a degree, not just fast foods, but GMOs. There's a pretty good book called "Good Omens" (maybe you've read it?)that comes to mind. In the book famine comes not in the absence of food, but in the bounty of it. Of course the food has been reduced to fodder, and the more you eat, the faster you starve. The book is hilarious despite the topic. Anyway...we're just people. Not bigger, better, stronger or smarter....flesh and blood, full of flaw. In fact, maybe I look just like your aunt, or perhaps your uncle sitting here in my paisly long-johns smoking a cigar. |

But what do you expect from the country that buys and uses the most illegal drugs than any other country on this planet? These people are not only lost, they are insane. Its a mass insanity. Along those lines I saw where a young man built and entire island floating on 2 liter bottles, down along the Mexican coast at CanCun the island had dirt enough that plants survived.. he had a hut in the center with green plants growing everywhere his own personal beach! His only problem was if a hurricane came in he might be in deep trouble, his little paradise might end up in Texas. |
