It's kind of hard to learn anything if each time you are reborn as a baby with no memories of lessons previously learned. Kind of like having to repeat first grade over and over and over because you brain gets erased every year. It would make more sense to believe that life and the afterlife is a progression from grade to higher grade, and after the earth life is lived, that's like grade school, and then you continue on in the afterlife with the higher levels of learning, constantly progressing higher and further, not going back to first grade and repeating it over and over.

Most people dont remember specifics

but major lessons are retained

for example some intuitively know not to Kill to take money
