I picked up the paper today to read letters about Amitakh Stanford. The Stanfords have a current ABN (52 191 287 455) for an animal rescue organisation, ATTAS or Attas Beethoven Animal Rescue and the postcode for this place is 4352.Today you can look it up on the free government ABN look-up page. It is listed as a charity. Recently, because of the Free Times article which mentioned an animal sanctuary, some locals donated money which they thought would go to domestic animals in need - like dumped animals. There are plenty of those here and I have one. When these locals went to try and find this sanctuary, they found an empty block and complained to Fair Tradiing. Fair Trading then recently sent inspectors here and couldn't find it either. One person who gave the Stanfords a donation raised a dispute with Paypal and their small donation was returned; they had wanted to visit the sanctuary before offering further support, either in work or monetary support. Their donation acquired a US conversion fee. The Stanfords, until recently, ran a web site with photos of the 'rescue' animals which is currently temporarily inactive. That was the Alukah Heights Animal Sanctuary, also not found to actually exist anywhere. It was through this web site that donations were attracted. So my question is - does anyone know the location of ATTBAR inpostcode 4352? Still with a current ABN? If not, why have these people and maybe still are, collecting donations for an organisation which no-one can find? How many other locals gave to this 'charity'? Explanations please Stanfords. I leave you to draw your own conclusions and find this a disturbing state of affairs in our community. ps from my name, many of you will recognise that xxxx and I have spent many years here auditing the many small and large community groups and organisations from here to Maleny, Toowoomba and beyond. We respect the enormous amount of good work and money raised for charities that these groups do. This is why these 'animal refuges' are a concern to me. In a couple of days the Border Post is due out with its letter page. We shall be looking forward to an explanation from Amitakh and Steffan Stanford about their animal refuges. |
