Quoting: Simon TemplarThey're keeping tight lipped on this. There's been a bit of buzz on talk radio, but nothing conclusive as to who and where. I live near Statesville so if I hear anything, I'll let you know. |

Yeah, understand the not giving a shit there... it's NASCAR season. Wonder how pissed the folks in Charlotte would be if things get worse and there's no mass gatherings due to social distancing? John Boy and Billy would go nuts... The greatest weapon of mass destruction is a closed mind. |

Two people suspected of having swine flu are being held in isolation in Mecklenburg County, state health director Dr. Jeffrey Engel said Tuesday. Neither is a North Carolina resident. Quoting: One was a traveler who became ill on a flight to Mexico, “got off a plane and wasn't feeling well.” The person was sent to a local hospital, where laboratory tests are being done “to tell us what's going on,” Engel said during a news conference in Raleigh. The second person is from Texas and was planning to return home by plane but was not allowed to board because of flu-like symptoms. The second person also went to a hospital, but Engel did not know if they remain in the hospital. There are others in North Carolina suspected of having the swine flu, but Engel said he will not give numbers until they are confirmed. If tests show the suspected cases actually have seasonal flu, their orders to stay isolated in their homes will be cancelled This was the latest I could find from the Charlotte Observer [link to www.charlotteobserver.com] seems awful strange no word since the 28th. Well other than some flack over the local talk radio station. |

I've posted on several threads, i find it unsettling that so many tests have been sent, but results are sketchy and slow...........not prepared for testing....or THE RESULTS? "No guts, no glory!" |

It seems the CDC are the only ones allowed to actually confirm a case right now and you know they must be backlogged due to the extreme influx of samples. This is a cover up plain and simple. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 639008 United States 05/01/2009 11:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, Iguess it's a no-brainer, but thought it's worth the heads up... <snip> from: wsoc tv N.C. Flu-Treatment Stockpile Below Federal GuidelinePosted: 10:33 am EDT May 1, 2009 Updated: 5:09 pm EDT May 1, 2009 RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina is one of 29 states that has not stockpiled enough flu treatments to meet the federal government's recommendations, but the state's health director says there's no reason for concern. State officials have stockpiled about 660,000 courses of antiviral medicines. North Carolina's federal allotment is about 1 million and roughly one-quarter of that was distributed this week in preparation to combat the swine flu outbreak. Combined, those 1.7 million total courses are enough to treat about 18 percent of the state's population. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that each state have enough antiviral medicine on hand to treat 25 percent of its population. Dr. Jeffrey Engel, the state health director, said Thursday the state purchased the maximum amount of federally-subsidized antivirals in 2007. He said the state did not purchase any doses at market price and he saw no reason to rush out and fill the gap. [link to www.wsoctv.com] |
