Garage sales covered under new product safety laws
Remember this? It caused quite a stir here earlier this year, I thought they had given up on the idea because of all the negative pressure from people like us.

Selling any used cribs or playpens at your upcoming garage sale? Children’s clothes with drawstrings or zippers? Pre-1985 books? Rubber duckies or pool floaties?

Better check them twice.

Just like megasize toy manufacturers and stores that sell products from China, the notoriously broad and confusing federal Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act applies to you and your front yard.

Anyone selling products, even used ones, that have been recalled or banned by the act is in violation. The act covers everything from toys with lead paint to cribs that might strangle babies.

“Ignorance of the law is not an excuse,” warns a 27-page Consumer Product Safety Commission resellers’ handbook, released this month. “But more importantly … you do not want to sell products that have the potential to harm anyone, especially a child.”

I ran multiple searches here looking for something and found nothing, so if it was posted, so sorry.

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

If you learn that one of the products you sell

violates the law or presents a hazard,

immediately inform the Commission.

You can report a potentially defective or

hazardous product on CPSC’s Web site

(www.cpsc.gov) or by phone at
(800) 638‐2772.

Are you condoning more government control over our lives? Don't you think it's bad enough? Can't you see this is an attack on barter itself? It's bad enough that they're going after the home gardener, the person trying to sell raw milk, or raw honey or raw almonds...

Yea, there's just not enough control...

The more laws to force you into their system the better...right?

This to me, appears to be an all out war....and they're gonna lose.

Anyone going against the constitution is breaking the law.
We should start having our own courts on the politicians that break the constitutional laws. I mean just like they do some drug king pin. Take all their assets and throw them in jail, and have some cop kick the crap out of them while they are on their way to jail.
I knew that sooner or later they were going to forbid anyone from a bartering system. After all, as a Christian, the bible says we will have a one world system. And it sticks in our face today like a hot fire stick.

So then I put it at the curb to be taken to the landfill. Some person in need of such item picks it up and takes it home to use it. It is still unsafe, but now you have no control over being able to caution the person. You cannot donate the item because they cannot sell it. So either you have to take it to the dump yourself, or the government will have to have a buy back program.

Just crazy.

I once put out an unwanted deep freezer that worked, it just wasn't big enough, as I had bought a larger one..

Well, I set it out next to the road and expected someone to pick it up, but they didn't....So I put a "FOR SALE 50$" sign on it...it was gone the next morning.

Been hearing this more and more in the last 5 or so years. Unfortunately, their are so many laws. its easier just to ask what you can do....which isnt much. Many times, you can find laws that counter act the law youve broken....its just a pain in the ass to find.
They have the power to create reality

I could explain it better but I would need charts, graphs and an easel.

By the way....which ones pink?

I think they are trying to warn people of hazardous things.

I would not want my gran kids getting

strangled in a crib,

or mouthing dangerous poisons in plastic toys.

Lot of this stuff is very dangerous.

Check it out.

This is so stupid.

Whatever happened to "Let the buyer beware"?

The manufacturer should be the only one with any responsibility.

As to lead in zippers....
When I was a kid we played with lead fishing weights.
Lead was in most paint.
The fear of this stuff is overkill.

We also played with little balls of mercury from broken thermometers. And no one died. No one became metally retarded.
More overfear control crap.

we talked about this law before on here,
kids stuff and books are only the first stuff,
if i rember right this would put alot of 2nd hand shops out busines,
not only that no yardsales and yep all those 2nd hand book shops,
and theres more, a lot of normal stuff falls under this law,

i thought they had got rid of it,

seems to me they run with a crap law now and then lie to the people that they won't use it and then bring it back long after everyone has forgot it now,.

Remember when you had to remove the doors on an old fridge if you discard them, cause kids get trapped inside...

Well that's back when the doors had them Industrial locking handles...

My neighbor got cited by the city for leaving a fridge by the road to be picked up, cause the doors were still attached...

They close by magnets these days, so its unessesary... -.-
