If you have any artistic skills you can become a decorative painter/muralist. I do have a degree in graphic design which helps me come up with some really eye-catching designs for the larger public stuff, but as long as you have a steady hand you should be able to paint.
I started off hustling a few paint jobs on the side when I was first starting out. Start-up costs are super low, when I first started all I had was a drop cloth, a roller, a paint tray and a step ladder.
At the beginning in 2008, I tried many different ways of acquiring clients, craigslist, business cards, flyers, findamuralist.com, thumbtack.com.... and now I have so much work with repeat clients and referrals, that everybody calls me and i dont have to look for work anymore.
Now I'm trying to build up a YouTube page so that someday I can eventually have a another stream of income from that.
And I'm also working on building up my Etsy page which only has about three things right now to purchase.
And since I technically work out of my home I get all the tax write-offs of owning a home business, plus 14,000 business miles (x $.54 per mile) in tax write-offs each year too.
