User ID: 688243 United States 06/19/2009 01:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My mother's doctor sent her to a cardiologist who now wants to put a stent in one of her coronary arteries. She is in her mid 80s. I have heard that the blockage usually returns and possibly gets worse due to the foreign material in the body. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 366482Anyone have any opinions or experiences with this? My grandmother actually had success with the stents. They are coated with a material that helps prevent future blockage. That's not to say it doesn't return, but it helps the buildup. She'll probably be given blood thinners, too. Well it seems so real I can see it And it seems so real I can feel it And it seems so real I can taste it And it seems so real I can hear it So why can't I touch it? So why can't I touch it? Dr. Blaylock is one of them and you can find information from him on this subject. |

User ID: 706615 United States 06/19/2009 03:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For what it's worth, my 84 year old mother has had several, 5, I think, 3 of them in one artery, all very close together. It's been a couple of years since she had them, and so far, so good. She's not a good candidate for invasive surgery. Mom has also had one going up the back of her neck into her brain area, and that is doing well, too. I doubt if she'd be alive today without the stents. |

The procedure is simple, recovery time short, benefits huge. Speaking from experience, I recommend it. Best wishes and good luck what ever you decide. |

Did the DR ever call back with a reco? Dear OP, For various reasons my friend said it would be best for you to ask your own Dr. ( family ) or otherwise for a recommendation. Also anyone with heart problems please look into: Coenzyme Q10. Coenzyme Q10 "is a miracle nutrient for the prevention and successful treatment of heart disease." Stephen T. Sinatra M. D. F. A. C. C. Many scientists and cardiologists know of its great benefits for the heart. But because it is not patentable the word does not get out as much. Please ask your Dr. about it . It can be found at Health Food Stores but you must get a good pure brand with no fillers. As usual: Disclaimer I am not your Dr. or offering you medical advice . Please seek and follow the advice of your Medical Professional. "Careful or you will end up in my novel" Angel |

User ID: 616779 United States 06/20/2009 01:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They have gotten really good with stents. About 2 years ago i was having bad chest pains. I went in they did a cath and found two arteries blocked 95% and one blocked 75%. They put in three stents and put me on meds. Basically he said if i get anymore he will stent me up some more. at my age 39. there is no reason to do open heart since you can only do it once and stents are much better if you can get away with it. Its not a terribly complicated procedure and only takes about 20 minutes for the procedure itself. I had mine dont on a thursday thru saturday hospital stay. 1 per day. I was back at work on monday. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 366482Anyone have any opinions or experiences with this? As long as this is a large hospital with plenty of experience and as long as your Grandmother is fit for surgery it should be OK! These stents are coated with a substance that helps keep the area from blocking up again. If your Grandma has been having Angina because of the blockage in all likelihood it will go away once she has the stent. The quality of life will be greatly improved if she is pain free. Pain from the heart is really horrible. It feels like an elephant sitting on your chest. In women it can be atypical though but if she gets rid of her symptoms she wlil feel much much better. God bless her! I hope all goes well! |
Dr. Dingleberry User ID: 429261 United States 06/20/2009 03:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A stent is MUCH better than bypass surgery. When they looked at the statistics it turned out that people who had bypass usually died in a few years but those that had the stents did much better. Remember Bill Clinton had bypass surgery in 2004 and he looked like shit when he came out. Of course he usually looked like shit but that is another matter entirely. |
