Its happening all over. Wichita, Kansas has experienced massive layoffs in the aircraft industry. Cessna has laid off half their workforce and has instituted MULAs (mandatory unpaid leaves of absence) and VULAs (voluntary unpaid leave of absence) for most of the rest except those in critical roles of parts etc., due to the downturn in business jet sales. The other aircraft companies Beach and Learjet are in a similar state. Boeing was taken over by raiders and the union busted with major layoffs a few years ago and the spin off company, Spirit. has only laid off 800 so far.

Locally we've got hours cut back to 32 per week in the meat packing plant and the plastics factory has a MULA for the summer and the claim is made that they can't get workers for the modular home manufacturing plant because they have to pass a drug test. Bald headed gang bangers are seen roaming the streets for the first time. Grocery stores, cars, businesses have been burgled.

There are reports of bank and store robeeries about every day now. Home break in roberries too.

Had car problems once and took an exit into Stockton and could only make it to a store parking lot. It was late at night.

It was the only place where a deputy parked next to me telling me that I had picked a bad place for car trouble and he'd stay with me until help came.

He'd get calls and would have to leave but then would come back and park next to me. In the times he was gone I would have people circling my car and then they would disappear when he came back.

I don't think I would have made it through that night if he hadn't have been there. I hope he's not one of the ones being laid off.

It has been a POS city as long as I can remember, the only reason it had such huge housing growth was due to the high cost of homes in the Bay Area.

I am for legal immigration, and have hired immigrants from Belice, El Salvador, Guatamala, Mexico, etc. Who were hard working honest peoPle.
