Its all just a ruse. I'm not saying the Russians don't make good aircraft, or that the Indians have good pilots. Both are very true. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10474623 But this is all about Airforce posturing, nothing more. They want their billion(s) dollar toys (F-35, others)that are so very unpopular in many circles, and have to justify them. It's hard to justify replacing an aircraft that has never been shot down anywhere in the world in air-to-air combat. So they have to create a percieved need, and that is what articles like this are doing. The F-15, just like the A-10, does it's job too damn well, and neither are popular with the Airforce brass because the only way you make it to the top in the AF is by being involved with fancy hi-tech projects like the F-35. |

The vast majority of America's conventional weapons, naval, air, armor, artillery are far outclassed by soviet and chinese developments. Ar15 garbage, fragile, underpowered, history of revisions just to ensure its truley serviceable in moderate to heavy conditions. AK47 tested and true since its inception with very little need to modify. Abrams Tank - outclassed by the T90 and even German Leopards Bradley's - huge mistake by the highest bidder, money pit of development revisions, way outclassed by new models from a ton of countries. This is all by design, a nice and weak for the big Red Dawn coming. the days of convential dominance is way way over. However the stocks of unknown nonconventional platforms may be evenly matched. |

We've reached a point where technology can create maneuverability greater then a human's threshold. Which means, the edge is with drones, robotics, and telecom. A human pilot will be a liability in the near future. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 50965469 United Kingdom 12/05/2013 04:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In the seventies the Russian central aerodynamics institute did some fundamental research into creating a wing that could maintain laminar flow at high angles of attack ( high alpha ) when the wing should be in deep stall. The product of that research was the Mig-29 and the SU-27 family. The highlight of airshows in recent years ( apart from the Red Arrows ) has the SU-27 performing cobras and other manoeuvres. This has now been bettered by the Mig-29M OVT you can see in the video above. I don't know if they fly in American airshows but there is nothing in the West that can touch them for manoeuvrability. . |
