Arvada police Sgt. Jeff Monzingo said a Goodwill employee familiar with military equipment recognized the device as an explosive Tuesday and notified police that some type of mine had been donated to the store, KMGH-TV, Denver, reported Wednesday. The Jefferson County Bomb squad identified the device as a Claymore mine and disposed of it. The bomb squad said the mine is designed to scatter steel balls as shrapnel for more than 100 yards. Monzingo said authorities were unsure whether the mine was functional. He said investigators were trying to determine who dropped off the mine. Holy shit relatives live in Arvada |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 586025Did you read the whole post? I think someone had a clue... "Arvada police Sgt. Without the blasting cap inserted AND that cap sent an electrical signal it could be burned, dropped, run over, and never explode. Now if it had a M57 connected to a blasting cap inside it you have a dangerous mine that could have been easily triggered. The article does not say but just a guess that it was actually an inert M33, which is a training device that in fact says claymore but does nothing. It would have no explosive potential. It looks like the real version, weighs as much, but does nothing. |
