Jessica Lunsford Is Missing

By Stan Grimes
Mar. 3, 2005

How do we lose people in this country? Jessica Lunsford, nine-years-old, is missing, has been for several days now. She was swept away without a clue. She’s not alone. If you go to the FBI’s Kidnapped and Missing Persons website, you’ll find many stories similar to Jessica’s.
The statistics are alarming. In California alone, over 109,000 children are missing (2004), believed to be runaways. In the United States 2001, figures indicate that there was an average of over 2000 reported cases per day. Nearly 90% of missing person cases is juveniles. Are these statistics constant over time?

According to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the past 5 years shows an overall decrease in the amount of reported missing persons. Perhaps the most alarming figure is that over 100,000 abductions or attempted abductions occurred in the year 2000. People are stealing or trying to steal our children. Where are they taking them?

Well, I think we all can remember the Elizabeth Smart bizarre abduction. Her captor, Brian Mitchell (Emmanuel) and his wife supposedly brainwashed Elizabeth into believing she would be Mitchell’s second wife. However, that was just one case. There are thousands of cases unsolved. Many have been abducted for sexual exploitation, others possibly taken out of the country and sold to the highest bidder. Unfortunately, many are believed to be dead.

Is it time for us to consider a better way of keeping track of our children? There has been much discussion about computer chipping our newborns. Some hospitals are experimenting with the idea of “chipping” newborns in an effort to prevent giving the wrong child to the wrong parents. Can this be applied to all newborns? Why not? We can have the Blue Star Tracking System for our vehicles. Why not a similar program for our children? Let technology work for us. It can be done.

There may be those who will say we should make parents be more responsible for the location and activities of their children, but the Elizabeth Smart case is excellent proof that no matter how proactive parents are about their children’s activities, wrong things can happen. A “chip” would be an excellent alternative. Perhaps a “chip” placed in the bodies of every known child molester, but there are many such deviants unknown to the legal system. It would be a nearly impossible task trying to locate all of them.

Our culture of family appears to be falling apart before our very eyes. I say that with reservation because I speak anecdotally. I do not have all the facts and figures. If I researched all those numbers, I would go well beyond the 500 hundred-word limits. It would be more like 500 pages. But, if one just looks at the glaring statistics offered by the FBI and other agencies, they would walk away from this article feeling insecure and rightfully so. We need a system to better track our children’s whereabouts.

Re: Should parents have their children and newborns chipped?
Only if you want to lose their souls. The chip is the mark of the beast as foretold in the bible. The article you posted is propaganda to get mothers to chip their children out of fear. Wouldn´t it just be better for parents to keep an eye on their children?

Well, the choice is up to the parents.

Personally, I wouldn´t do that to my child....

I agree this sounds like a ploy to get parents scared in thinking there´s some evil ring out to steal their kids--right!

2348:

That is rediculous.

I wouldn´t get my kids chipped. But NOT because it sells their souls. How can something MATERIAL sell your soul? It CAN´T

That´s like saying if you get an augmentation of ANY kind you are selling your soul.

People chip their autos with theft recovery systems like ´Lojack´ or Onstar in case it gets stolen, but you won´t chip your child and afford them the same protection?

Why not simply remove it when they graduate high school? Why be so short sighted?

this is the very thing that i meant about fear. you say something like that to a parent and it sets the guilt trip in motion. then when parents agree, it becomes accepted and by the time they are 18 a law has been passed that its illegal to be without them.

and why? because we were too damn lazy to watch out for our own children and not expect the government to watch them for us. No thanks i will watch my own child

By your reasoning we should turn off all our monitored home alarm systems, turn off all the onstars and lojack system, and trust everyone is a model parent and can watch their kids 100% of the time.

Nice reasoning.

It´s when you aren´t watching your kids disappear. Not when you are. Everyone is a model parent till their kid is snatched.

Re: Should parents have their children and newborns chipped?
As parents, we know you worry about your children when they are away from home. Chipping them is the ideal way to keep track of those you love when you can´t be there. Your child will be entered in a national database and his/her chip can be tracked by GPS--you can never lose them! Even more of a bonus is that once they have been entered in the database we can keep tabs on them as adults to ensure they are compliant with the law and come to no harm. Have your child chipped today!!

Hey US government, that was a leading and ignorant post. You simply remove your child´s chip when they become teenagers or after they graduate. Personally I think it´s a great idea.

if someone realy wants your kid, they will get him/her however they want, & they´ll rip out the chip- and even so a chip will not save your kid´s life. It will probably lessen the chances of the child being found alive too, but you will always find the chip moreso than the child in tact. scarey

It is very difficult in this day to really believe that your children are safe at all times. No matter how careful you are. However, to think your problem will be solved by just "chipping" a child is ridiculous. Vehicles with tracking devices are still stolen.

Re: Should parents have their children and newborns chipped?
Hypothetical question..

Let´s say there was a bracelet that child could wear concealed around their ankle or waist perhaps that tracked them in case the worst happened. Would you let them wear it for their own safety in case their abducted so they could be found and safely returned to you before they are harmed?

If you would consider this then what is the difference with having a chip implanted till they become older and more able to protect themselves?
