Need advice about high blood pressure
Since 2007 I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. The problem apparently was caused from the stress of my job at that time which also caused me a burnout.I began taking medication without offering me any real help. After visiting another speacialist I began medication in late 2008.The new medicine (Pactens) lowered the blood pressure but had terrible side effects which ended me up 3 times to the hospital with an ambulance!I asked my doctor to change that and since June I began taking another one ( Aprovel 150 mgs ).It has less side effects and lowers the blood pressure but less than the previous one(it reaches usually about 100-140).The problem for me are the side effects which prevent me having a normal life.Unfortunately doctors are stubborn about the side effects of these medicines. At first they refuse they have any and later they ask you to accept them...Therefore I decided to stop taking medication the last couple of weeks. At first me blood pressures raised a little but I felt ok though the last three days-I m not sure why-my blood pressure raised a lot having tense symptoms such as dizziness etc.I guess I ll have to restart taking the medicine.I m sure my doctor will suggest that unless he prescribes me a new one.

The last period I ve been searching alone for natural remedies that would help lower the blood pressure and began a diet with fruits, vegetables, garlic, cocoa and red wine.My doctor said the problem is most probably caused from stress. This summer has indeed been very difficult for me and didn t get the chance to rest which I feel I really need for the burnout I have.My nerves are also in a bad condition.

I d like to get some advice from people who know about this high blood pressure problem and specially from those who have had it in the past and dealed with it succesfully. What should I do in order to lower my blood pressure?Should I take medicine or not? Will a special diet have results and after how long?Is there any other natural remedy to use in my diet?Is high blood pressure curable? If stress caused it will high blood pressure be gone when stress is releaved?I have heard and read about people who have had this in the past and went over it and this encourages me.I don t want to waste my life from this early age of 31 taking these medicine with all these terrible side effects and most of all I don t want to have high blood pressure in the rest of my life.I d like to see responsible answers specially from people who have dealed with this succesfully in the past.

Re: Need advice about high blood pressure
Hello Edgar, de-stressing is #1 ... which includes getting plenty of rest, maybe massages(?), eating well, drinking water, enjoying loving relationships, being at peace with God, etc.

"Let go and let God!" is a good daily reminder!

I have read that 99.999% of what we worry about NEVER happens - - great odds! Take 'em and run!

Magnesium is the mineral muscle relaxant; easing tension on the body's structures is key to easing pressure within.

I have also heard that a secret you have kept inside will often cause high blood pressure, so if you need to spill, find someone you can spill to and release the thing(s) you've kept bottled up inside, so to speak.

Health food stores are great resources if you find someone who really cares about others, and not about the $$$.

I know GLP will have other suggestions for you, so here's your

bump

May you find your answers!

God bless!

Re: Need advice about high blood pressure
I, too, was going to mention Magnesium.

Also, a B Complex is great for stress.

Another good route would be looking into whether you have a sleep disorder. Sleep apnea can cause hypertension and stress. The "cure" for that would be to put you on a CPAP machine.

I understand about the meds. My husband (he's 33 and been on meds since he was probably 28) had to try several before he found one his body could tolerate. One made him itch. One made him cough constantly (which was incredibly annoying for me, too!) But then he was diagnosed with sleep apnea and went on a CPAP. Most wonderful thing ever. :) He doesn't keep me awake all night now and his blood pressure is great. His dr. told him he could go off his meds, but he's stayed on them for now. He's working on losing some weight and then hopefully he won't need the CPAP or meds.

Please be sure to monitor your blood pressure until you do find something that works. It's not something to mess around with. A stroke or heart attack at 31 would be a lot worse than being on meds at 31. :(

True story:

I had this person, once, with very high blood pressure, who didn't want to go on the meds his doc suggested. In consulting with me, he disclosed that he was drinking 5 cans of soda/day - - 3 days later and down to one soda/day, his blood pressure was perfect and stayed that way.

High sodium content in the soda drinks (or whatever), pulls in extra water, creating extra volume and volume load, for the heart to have to circulate = higher blood pressure.

That was such an easy fix for him!

Probably not your situation but thought I'd share ... more or less, we are what we eat/drink.

Hello wonbyOne!Thanks for your reply!

Relaxing and stressing down is indeed what I feel I need most of all...I don t know if it will drop my blood pressure but it may help...

Never heard of the theory about the secret you mentioned,it makes me ponder though.

My worry is that I don t want to be labeled as "patient" from this age and have to use HBP medication for my whole life. The side effects prevent me having a normal life and that makes me feel very bad.Unfortunately doctors are not willing to understand that and just push patients to take them.

I am willing to stress down(not an easy thing though as far you still have many concerns),follow a special diet and lose weight.I hope I ll see results soon or later.

I m not sleeping properly as a matter of fact.I ll try to fix that too but it is not easy either.

The specialist and my family doctor told me I m not at risk of a heart attack or a stroke at the moment but I might be if the blood pressure is high for years so I guess I don t have to worry about that for now.

Why doesn t your husband want to stop medication although his doctor said he can do that?

I think he's afraid after all this time. He knows the meds work and I think he's just scared that if he goes off something bad will happen. And the one he's on now doesn't give him side effects, so I guess it's easier for him to just stay on it. I don't know.

Are you able (like, money wise) to go to a sleep center and have a sleep study done? Because if your only problem is a sleep disorder, that could be such an easy fix. Or...I have read that HTP-5...I think it's an amino acid...can help with some sleep disorders and depression. That might be something to read up on.

There is an age-old remedy, which I haven't tried yet, but I plan to do so from tomorrow.
Mix up some paste with honey and cinnamon powder. Eat this daily, either on toast or just eat a tablespoon amount in the morning.
Apparently this works wonders with both high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Let us know how you do....

No.....the person was drinking 5 cans of soda and stopped. THe sodium in soda causes fluid retention. And all sodium. That's why a lot of hypertension meds have diuretics in them. But cutting out sodium is way better than taking a diuretic!

It's good you want to get off the meds and cure the problem. So many are content taking pharx thinking that is how to fix it.

I cured mine after 25 years on and off meds with hbp. It takes a change in drastic diet change. It can cure hbp, cholesterol triglyds diabetes osteporosis, kidney problems, cancer, weight problems, and a few others that develope from our western diet of a high animal protien meat eating diet. Yep, too much meat.

Has to do with poor digestion. Meat is hard to digest and low in nutrition. Veggies move through and are loaded with nutrition.

Three meals are very important and not the one all-you-can-stuff which overloads the digestive track leading to hbp, imo. You may notice the bp is lower first thing in the morn after sleeping and not eating all night, while at the end of the day after a few meals the bp is higher. Spreading out smaller meals helps all this. Three smaller meals.

You can go here an look around. They have info along these lines..

I had hbp, cholesterol triglyds diabetes all reverse after 30 days of a vegan diet.

I had to do it after a double by-pass at the age of 41. Too bad didn't do it sooner. Lab work is totally normal today.)

Eat bannanas, take hawthorne, diuretics, and garlic. Cut down on salt and eat only lean meat. This lowered my hubbys blood pressure in only a weeks time. Maybe, lower the dose of blood pressure medicine and give these things a chance to work. Buy a blood pressure cuff and monitor your blood pressure if you dont. My hubby thought he was dying from blood pressure medicine. Come to find out the kind they had him on was actually made from snake venom and the internet was full of horror stories by people taking it.

I have always been in excellent health all my life. However, my stress levels have always been off the charts.

About 4months ago I began suffering from very high blood pressure. About 119beats a minute. I workout 5 days a week and work a very stressful job.

One thing I noticed was I was drinking a lot of Gatorade drinks to keep myself hydrated. I never realized all the sodium that is in those drinks. So, I have cut out all Gatorade drinks and my blood pressure has come down a little. To about 99 beats a minute.

As for my stress, only a miracle would improve that. We live in a fallen world and chase after illusions. Life is one big race towards what I do not know. I do know that it is slowly, quickly, killing me.

I think so too, 'Prophet'. We should throw away the salt shaker. I hardly use it any more. Salt is good. I had just bought a bunch of the sea salt, but looking at how much we require adding is not needed. Then recently i read this about all the salt added to wester foods and how the rest of the world has really low bp.

Thanks for your understanding about my will to cut off medicine. Most people think medicine is the absolute solution and not consider the side effects they give.Your post encourages me since you cured you hbp with a diet and cut off medicine.

Indeed at the period the problem began in 2007 I wasn t eating well due to the pressure of my work,I ate too much meat, many times humburgers with a lot of salt too...Often one meal per day...I also had bad cholesterol and triglyds which has improved in the last tests. But why does bad digestion cause hbp?

7 month ago I quit smoking and the last year I have lost weight too.

According to you hbp is curable.I ve read some articles in the net which present hbp as not curable disease and it sounds bad.Though I have heard quite some people who had hbp and were cured.

I restared my medication.I hope I ll see improvement in my blood pressure and then consider if I can stop medication.Do you think 30 days including a vegan diet and perhaps less stress would be enough for some at least first good results?

It's a good idea to get a meter and keep it checked if you are going to try and solve the problem with diet. No guess work.

Why digestion?
I've just read this is the key to so many problems. Meats take longer to digest. The organs have to produce more digestive enzymes and insulin. This cause the system to have to work harder driving the hbp. But also there is a cardio-vascular aspect. Too much insulin in the blood affects how cholesterol is processed and just leads to several of these 'blood disorders' hp cholesterol trigl. This is why they seem to all be related.

You may check the links posted. I was noticing they have some of this info which i find reliable. An ounce of prevention.)

Yeah....the digestive tract does affect SO many things. Taking probiotics is always a good thing.

Yeah...my husband was told when he was first prescribed HB meds "This is something that you'l have for the rest of your life." (A different dr. is the one who told him he could go off his meds.) So instead of encouraging him to lose weight, exercise, change his diet it's "Just take this pill for the rest of your life. There are no other options." I realize that most people aren't going to take advice to eat healthy and exercise, but I believe doctors have an obligation to present the truth.

Re: Need advice about high blood pressure
This recipe is attributed to Dr. David Williams.

To lower blood pressure, Dice one eggplant (do not peel it) into one inch cubes and put into a gallon of filtered water into the fridge. Soak for four days before using. The juice will be a brownish colour, some people keep it for a week and then make another fresh batch. The large round eggplant seems to give better results than the long skinny ones. On the fourth day, drain the water off and save it. This is the tonic. Take between one and one and a half ounces daily and monitor your BP closely. Caution too much tonic can lower BP too much. Go slow. Some choose to take it every other day. And some say one ounce doesn’t work so they take upwards to four ounces daily. You should see excellent results within a few days.

If taking MAO inhibitor proceed with caution.

I've replaced NaCL with KCl and it made a huge difference. There's so much NaCl in everything, it's unusual you'd require to salt any food. Potassium chloride (potash) takes some getting used to but it's so much better for you.

40Lbs of it in the water softener Dept of most big chains will keep you for more than a decade.
