The Terence McKenna Thread - It's time for a new generation to meet Terence
I've had a kickass time in the New GLP Voice Chat talkin' "Terence" with my GLP brothers and sisters. There are alot of psychedelic heads congregating in that new virtual reality Trinity has brought to the table.

"Find the others" is a leary/mckenna quote that i've always loved. As our technology advances... this becomes easier.
"Others" being fellow humans that share your unique interests, questions and passions.

When McKenna used this quote, he was referring to other psychedelic people. I use it in the same respect. But here on GLP I find that definition to be more expansive than I realized.

The folks on voice chat right now communicating... are psychedelic... even if they abstain from psychoactive compounds. The act of communicating fringe ideas through such technologies is a psychedelic act; and the sharing of ideas at this level of articulate conversation within a virtual landscape is the culmination of thousands of psychedelic trips by people you will never hear of.

We are swimming in a sea of psychedelic accomplishment... Now let us build on it.

I offer the work of Terence McKenna as a framework for the future.

as Leary once said while introducing McKenna, "terrence is one of five or six most important people on the planet" of course he couldn't remember the other ones ( short term memory loss) terrence was a great and unick mind that commes very rarely on this planet he is greatly missed right now in this time

When Will I Smoke Terence McKenna?

Today we live in exciting times in the context of cannabis cultivation. With the scientific identification of active compounds within the cannabis plant, growers face a situation akin to a chef in a farmers market. The possible combinations of taste, smell and psycho-activity are truly staggering. For the grower, all of these factors inevitably lead to a more superficial dilemma. After you achieve the desired physical traits, what name do you attach to this unique creation?

But does this question have to be a superficial one? No, not at all, the precedent has already been set. Most notably, Jack Herer and Jorge Cervantes are immortalized in the citadel of genetics along with The Buddha; but I don’t think deities count and it’s probably more Zen to not care about such things. So who is worthy enough to have their name on a jar of green? Well, my nominee would most likely argue that we are all worthy, we should all be growing our own strains and share our namesake with the world.

So without any more linguistic foreplay, I whole heartedly endorse Terence McKenna as a strain worthy individual. Whether it be for his lifelong love affair with the cannabis plant, his literary contributions in the psychedelic community or his conservation efforts towards entheo-botanical horticulture and re-evaluation of the laws that stifle it. Terence McKenna’s counter cultural impact is immeasurably prevalent throughout the world, even if he is not known by those who enjoy the fruits of his work.

Now, someone reading this may say, “Why should this guy get a strain when he was never a heavy player in the cannabis cultivation game?” Well, he and his brother did write “The Magic Mushroom Grower’s Guide”. And if that doesn’t impress, let me drop some bullet points on you.

· McKenna’s theories on evolution speculate that when we as a primitive species came out of the trees and onto the grasslands, our food foraging introduced us to the psilocybin producing mushrooms that then launched us into the consciousness we find ourselves with today.

· His uncountable expeditions into psychedelic altered states bore the discovery that each psychedelic compound had a logos attached to it. An intelligence that could be communicated with. Each bearing the unmistakable essence of the culture that had the most historical use of that particular psychedelic compound.

· While conversing with the psilocybin mushroom intelligence for many years, the mushroom told him to take a closer look at the Chinese divination process known as the “I Ching”. Following the mushroom’s lead, he produced a piece of software that operated through the fractal mathematics present in the “I Ching”. The end result is called Timewave Zero, a graphical representation of the ebb and flow of novelty through time. The most notable part of this psychedelic software is that it predicts a point of novelty in our near future that rivals the Big Bang. Does the date 12/21/2012 ring a bell?

Did those bullet points blow anybody’s mind? Imagine delving into those topics and more while smoking some Terence McKenna. So, what type of cannabis would be the most fitting for memorializing a Bardic Irishman who dabbled in neo-shamanism and could articulate the works of James Joyce as if he had been there penning the tome himself?

The best most potent cannabis strain you can find. The stuff you’ll squirrel away for special occasions because it’s just too damn strong. Terence was a vision junkie, and he maintained that the most dramatic and effective use of cannabis is to abstain for a period of time and then smoke as much of the best stuff you can get your hands on. This is a sure fire method to achieve the level of visual interaction with the experience that Terence constantly sought after. Even though he himself wished he could curb his cannabis use to attain such states, he often admitted that the cannabis plant had too many other benefits that made daily use an equally attractive prospect.

So to all you growers out there, large and small ops mutually included, I beg you to start growing the most potent awe inspiring strain of cannabis that you can. Name it after this iconic dreamer of dreams. And share it with the world.

Re: The Terence McKenna Thread - It's time for a new generation to meet Terence
I like McKennda and his work, but i disagree with him on one particular point; That entheogens are more practical than meditation/yoga/esoteric practices.

Sure entheogens can blow your mind, but they are not shortcuts to enlightenment or better modalities of being. They work, but if you lack the materials neccesary to form a new worldview/synthesis prior to taking, then whats the point? You will just end up going around in circles.

I will concede that people who've used entheogens tend to be more 'awake' shall we say, but i think we should be careful in insinuating that this is the direct result of entheogens.

There are great minds out there, but too many have been damaged and sent in the wrong direction because of entheogen use without any proper spiritual context being entertained by the user.

These are immensely powerful tools. In the hands of those who don't understand (which is all of us really), they are a double edged sword. Once you get on the spiritual path, its very difficult to get off.. and entheogen use can trigger this process IMO.

Its a shame McKenna did not go further with his perspective, because he doesn't do himself any favours by sticking to the modern day hippy image. That said, he did bring to light alot of great perspective and information that was sorely needed in the public domain! That for which he should be thanked hf
