Quoting: *Jentle*What recipe does she use? My dad's dandelion wine used to burn with an invisible flame. It wasn't great for drinking but it sure made good fuel. I serve the Ornithocracy. |

Didn't you see the other recent thread about the joys of corporate box made biscuits, factory made margarine and how wonderful they are? It goes on for 2 pages on how to make sausage gravy. But you get an A for effort! I like to get summer raspberries, wild ramp, wild garlic, and mint gone wild. |

User ID: 763463 United States 09/10/2009 10:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | At least once a week I like to eat something I gathered from the wild. This week, I'll be making steamed red clover, dandelion-bud tempura, and something acorn-based (not sure what yet). My wild-berry wine is almost ready, and I have some wild herbs and berries infusing in vodka for mixed drinks. Quoting: OrnithocratHow about you? What wild-gathered food do you eat a lot of or eat pretty often? I eat dandelion once a week. And some kind of green wild thing (donn't know name in english) my Greek mother gathers from fields. She says it's good for killing off viruses. If at first you don't succeed, perhaps failure is more your style. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 690822 United States 09/10/2009 10:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went along picking blackberries and huckleberries for the chickens, eating a few as I went along the way. I plan to make wildberry jam for winter. It's going to be yummy. Blackberries also make the BEST steak sauce. I'm lucky to live in western Washington. We don't have the best climate for growing fruit, but all types of legumes and underground crops love it. You'd think the opposite what with the rain and sort, but we can grow peas just about anywhere. Blackberries grow everywhere. Cool weather berries. And I have a healthy patch of stinging nettle and elderberry, too. Thimbleberry, Salmonberry are late spring favourites. |

We used to collect them and hurl them at each other. Anyone know how to use them as food? Quoting: htp,nli 686272I would caution you strongly about eating wild gourds/cucumbers of any type! I eat manzanita berries, puffball mushrooms, miner's lettuce, wild grapes, Himalayan berries (wild blackberries), Grey pine nuts, I have four huge white oaks whose acorns that don't need to be leached, but we don't usually eat those. There are fish in the river but we've been warned not to eat them. Lots of squirrels, deer and birds, but I don't eat meat. Can't grow a garden because the soil consists of about 3 inches of dirt over solid rock. I'm forced to do my wild-gathering at the grocery store's produce department. |
