ALL male bears eat cubs. This is just the way it is. Next they will say global warming is responsible for fish to eat their babies too. What a bunch of morons. Call the zoo and ask them why they dont let the male bears play with their cubs.  Same with the pandas and the very young cubs. No daddy allowed. As long as the female is nursing, she is not likely to go into estrus and mate with him. Happens in a lot of species. And since polar bear numbers are on the increase, it's doubtful food is the issue.
