Mishkin Calls Ron Paul Fed-Audit Bill ‘Incredibly Dangerous’
Hmmm...it could lead to second guessing the feds....how very dangerous indeed!

Representative Ron Paul’s proposal to allow audits of the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy is “incredibly dangerous” and could stoke inflation, said Frederic Mishkin, a former Fed governor.

“The Ron Paul bill is incredibly dangerous,” said Mishkin, who is now a Columbia University professor, in a Bloomberg Radio interview. “It is remarkable the kind of attacks that are occurring on Fed independence.”

Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke has opposed the proposal by Paul, a Texas Republican, saying it might open the door to interference in monetary policy. A separate proposal in the Senate backed by Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd would strip the Fed of authority to supervise banks.

Paul’s bill “would be very dangerous in terms of promoting inflation,” Mishkin said. “If you make the central bank beholden to politicians on a short-run basis, you get very bad outcomes: high inflation and less of the ability to deal with shocks like the ones we had recently.”

Bernanke goes before Dodd’s Senate panel Dec. 3 in a confirmation hearing for his second term as central bank chief. He is likely to face questions about the central bank’s record of supervision during the financial crisis and its role in taxpayer-funded rescues of firms including insurer American International Group Inc.

The Fed chairman, in a Nov. 29 commentary in the Washington Post, said curbing the central bank’s authority to supervise the banking system and tampering with its independence would “seriously impair” economic stability in the U.S.

Core Functions

“A number of the legislative proposals being circulated would significantly reduce the capacity of the Federal Reserve to perform its core functions,” he wrote. The measures “would seriously impair the prospects for economic and financial stability in the U.S.”

Paul, who wrote a best-selling book this year titled “End the Fed,” said provisions in his amendment would limit interference in monetary policy. The measure, co-sponsored by Representative Alan Grayson, a Democrat from Florida, would exclude any unreleased transcripts or minutes of Fed policy meetings. It calls for an audit of the Fed and its 12 regional banks by the GAO within a year after enactment.

Mishkin, 58, said government audits could lead members of Congress to second guess Fed decisions and prompt them to call on Fed governors and bank presidents to explain their interest- rate decisions.

“This is not the way to do monetary policy,” he said. “There are a whole bunch of proposals about regulatory authority and the Federal Reserve, which are potentially extremely damaging to the economy.”

Bullshit.

The Fed needs to be invesigated to the very bottom, and those CRIMINALS indicted, arrested, given a fair trial, and then shot.

Sounds like more scare tactics such as the ones used to pass the first two stimulus packages and we are now worse off than we were before.

Go Ron Paul Go; maybe we can break up that cartel and have those S.O.B.s arrested.
"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy"- James Madison

"Joining the military does not mean that you will be defending the country. The purpose of the U.S. military should be to defend the United States. Period. Yet, one of the greatest myths ever invented is that the current U.S. military somehow defends our freedoms. First of all, our freedoms are not in danger of being taken away by foreign countries; if they are taken away it will be by our own government. It is not a country making war on us that we need to fear, it is our government making war on the Bill of Rights. And second, how is stationing troops in 150 different regions of the world on hundreds of U.S. military bases defending our freedoms? It is not the purpose of the U.S. military to change regimes, secure the borders of other countries, or spread democracy at gunpoint. The Department of Defense should first and foremost be the Department of Homeland Security."--Laurence Vance--

Re: Mishkin Calls Ron Paul Fed-Audit Bill ‘Incredibly Dangerous’
This may be the greatest show on earth: Texas Rep. Ron Paul (R) is picking up major bipartisan support for his proposal to audit the Federal Reserve Board, and as this happens, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke is showing signs of near-panic at the prospect of being audited.

As liberal Democrats increasingly join with conservative Republicans in Paul's move to audit the Fed, Bernanke has been churning out speeches, op-eds and interviews warning of Armageddon if this occurs.

It is interesting how the Federal Reserve Board, long the champion of fiscal and monetary prudence when others spend money, has declared war on the idea that anyone should account for how the Fed spends money.

Think about it: In the largest bailout in history, neither the public nor members of Congress can even make an intelligent estimate of how much money the Fed has actually spent, or exactly how it is being spent, or exactly who are the major beneficiaries of much of the spending. We know taxpayers, consumers and jobless workers are not the beneficiaries, but we don’t even remotely know the full story of exactly which institutions benefit from exactly which programs.

The stakes are very high, and as this battle unfolds it will continue to be the greatest show on earth, and one of the most important.

Re: Mishkin Calls Ron Paul Fed-Audit Bill ‘Incredibly Dangerous’
CONgress can 'buy the FED' out of business for around 450 million BUT they would rather continue wasting some 450 BILLION per year on servicing the evergrowing debt. The ONLY reason the FED is still around is because they finance the permanent defecit spending of the money whores in DC.
DOD cannot account for 'trillions' since 9/10/2001 and this is continuing and ongoing today with current 'expenditures'. Millions of foreclosures and lost jobs have devastated sweeping areas of the country resulting in lower tax revenue putting many states on the verge of bankruptcy. TARP et al puts the burden of bad banking decisions on the backs of the txpayers while execs reap billions in bonuses. So much of the trillions gone have been spent abroad instead of at home in trying to keep the sale of TBILLs flowing and it is failing regardless.
In summation the whore-addicts in CONgress are given their drugs (money) by the drug dealing FED and iou's in the form of TBILLS are sold with a 'promise to pay' at a future date. Thesystem is nearing collaps and the whores in CONgress will do ANYTHING to protect their uninterrupted cashflow because 'foreign aid' in its many forms is the ONLY power CONgress has to maintain its power.
The C Story, POOF and Casper sagas will never be let to come to fruition nor will NESARA because these would actually help millions of people from the ground up to help 'pull themselves up by the bootstraps'. Instead the whores in CONgress would rather give this to the banks who can then profit by lending your own monies back to you.
Current accounting practices make ENRON look likes childsplay and by the far reaching social, financial and manufacturing aspects that are affected by the 'programs/NESARA' the delays, lies etc are the worst form of TREASON against the people of the USA.

The worst thing is that there are a whole bunch of dumb fuckin' illiterate voters who will swallow the whole line without even pausing to think that the economy got into the shape it's in while the fed was running the show with literally no oversight.

Of course the FRS is going to threaten Inflation, as they have already more than paved the way for HyperInflation... if the audit goes through they can then blame the HyperInflation they sat in motion on the Audit.
