West Pointer Reads Anti-Obama Book Awaiting President

Brad Thor, the author of a series of best-selling thrillers, is getting unique publicity because of a news photo of a West Point cadet reading his anti-Obama novel "The Apostle" while awaiting the president's speech at the U.S. military academy.

Obama was at West Point Tuesday night to announce he will dispatch another 30,000 troops to Afghanistan, fewer than military commanders on the ground had sought.

As part of the staging for the appearance, cadets were ushered into the auditorium hours in advance of the speech.

Many brought books to read while they waited. "The Apostle," according to Amazon.com, is about a "new and naïve U.S. president" who has just taken office with a landslide victory because of a strategist who "delivered the mainstream media for him on a silver platter."

The thriller features a kidnapping, a former intelligence operator dispatched on a secret mission to free one of Osama bin Laden's lieutenants and an investigation of a pre-election fatality.

The image was posted online on the MyPetJawa blog.

WND reported last year on Thor's book "The Last Patriot" in which the story contends the Quran contains errors and is not based on the last revelations of Muhammad.

At the time, Thor reported that was getting death threats.

In the book, dubbed the "Islamic Da Vinci Code," Thor posits that Islamic scholars have engaged in a conspiracy to cover up missing parts of the Quran that allegedly reveal their prophet had a final moderate revelation that abrogates the violent passages of the Quran.

But more than 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide believe their holy book is the perfect, inviolate word of Allah – an exact word-for-word copy of the original book as it exists in Paradise, given to Muhammad.

Thor, who has served as a member of the Department of Homeland Security's Analytic Red Cell Program, explained his research confirmed that parchments and fragments of parchments of the Quran were uncovered at the Great Mosque in Sana'a, Yemen, in 1974.

"What they found when they started studying them was, uh-oh, there's stuff in here that doesn't look like the Quran today," he explained, "and we've gone around telling everybody that the Quran is perfect and now here are these discrepancies."

The RawStory blog noted the book "Kill Bin Laden" also drew the attention of media Tuesday night at West Point.

The blog reported, "'Kill Bin Laden' is an eyewitness account of the Battle of Tora Bora told by 'Dalton Fury,' a pseudonym for a former Army major who led the Delta Force covert mission and whose goal was to kill Osama bin Laden just weeks after the 9/11 terrorist attacks."

The choice of reading material was hailed on multiple websites and condemned on others.

Said one commenter on the Amazon site about "The Apostle," "If you only read the exciting Afghan adventure of Scot Harvath, this is a fun and informative book. But you have to skip all the parts where the author, in an unrelated and superfluous sub-plot, has the president (a poorly-veiled caricature of Barack Obama) engaging in an adulterous affair, manslaughter, and perjury. The only reason this sub-plot is included is to slander the current president of the United States."

On the Raw Story site, however, one commenter added, "Would it have been better if the cadets were reading the X-Men? How is the choice of cadet reading material even relevant? They're military cadets and they likely read all manner of military buffoonery. At least junior wasn't reading Mein Kampf."

The "Kill Bin Laden" book also apparently benefited from the publicity, starting the day about 12,000 on the Amazon list, but by mid-afternoon it was at No. 993.

When Thor released "The Patriot," he was compared to Salman Rushdie, the target of Islamic threats over his depiction of Muhammad. Rushdie has lived under a death sentence since he released "The Satanic Verses."

But Thor told WND at the time Islam is getting "a free pass" and he was tired of sugarcoating it as a "religion of peace."

"The more I study the Quran, the more I realize that it's unlike the Bible," he said.

Ever heard of enlisted personnel going to West Point that have already seen combat or done tours of duty. That guy was probably nominated by his officers to be an officer.

Here is one example that I found just by doing a quick search.

Would you like me to show you photos of my brother with medals on his academy uniform? Get informed.
