If the insurgency were to succeed, the oil flow to the west would surely be under threat, unless the Yemenis just want to become fat, rich oil barons. Thin end of the wedge too, imo. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 803058 ![]() 12/08/2009 08:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Basically the Saudi ground troops that will actually fight are hopeless and the Houthis won the ground battles decisively, picking up the weapons the Saudis drop to keep going. They stupidly persist in bombing the Yemeni towns; that will be answered with the looting and destruction of their own towns. |

User ID: 800077 ![]() 12/08/2009 09:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yemen rose sharply up the regional security agenda in August when the government launched Operation Scorched Earth against Muslim Shi'ite rebels in the north, prompting the bloodiest episode in a conflict dating back to 2004. It rose higher still this month when rebels seized some Saudi territory, killing two border guards, and accused Riyadh of allowing Yemeni forces to use Saudi land as a launchpad for their attacks against them. Saudi Arabia responded by launching a military assault on the rebels -- known as the Houthis after the clan of their leader -- and enforced a 10 km (six mile) deep buffer zone inside Yemen to keep rebels away from its southwestern border. The violence has displaced more than 170,000 civilians, who face malnutrition and cholera, the United Nations says. The rebels, from the minority Zaidi sect of Shi'ism, say they face political, economic and religious discrimination from the Yemeni government, which they accuse of favouring the radicals among the Sunni majority who lean towards Saudi Arabia's puritanical Wahhabi Islam. It is a barracks force. The Saudi's are extremely dependent on foreign forces to help protect the Kingdom. There are probably a couple of reasons for this. First, the King and retinue don't trust their fellow countrymen very much sort of the King today gone tomorrow complex. Secondly, the Saudi's because of Mecca and Medina two of the holiest places for Islam have previously been immune to the constant warfare between the Muslim sects. Enter the Iranian leadership who don't give a shit about anything other than assuming the leadership of the region and whatever that takes. Mahmoud SABOURJIAN and his buddies are nothing more than the Genghis Khan's of this century with one exception Khan was outfront lopping off heads these ASSHOLES use proxies to do their dirty work while all the time claiming the high ground. |

And so much for the peaceful landscape if only the US and Israel would not interfere. It's going to be hard to blame this muslim infighting on others the way they always try to do. One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one. Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway. But the deeper problem here is that the Iranians are salivating at the thought of possibly taking control of Saudi through this proxy force! Quoting: ANNONYMOUS 825313Exactly.
