Or am I getting the cold shoulder for some reason? Did I make some awful faux pas the last time I was here? Maybe so, I think I spouted off a little about something. I have a vague memory of spouting off. To anyone I have offended, please accept my sincere apologies. I do have a fearsome temper. I have just written boringly about my own experience. Anyone who can reframe this into something more spooky and scary, be my guest. Anonymous Coward User ID: 842279 China 12/16/2009 09:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From what I know, the quality of TCM professors (including acupuncture) in the west often varies. Some professors are even recent graduates in China. So you can imagine the quality. There are a lot of good TCM doctors and TCM teachers in China. But people who are good at TCM aren't necessary good in English. Most often they aren't because those who are good would invest a lot of time in ancient literature that would leave little time for studying another language. I would recommend that you study in educational institution that have a longer history. Or if you're determined enough. Study in China. Or if you're crazily enthusiastic enough, learn by yourself. Learn the basics, read books, practice on yourself. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 842279 China 12/16/2009 09:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I recently attended an American acupuncture "college" and this occurred to me while I was there. Quoting: New EveI have never had any trouble in an educational experience like I did at this school. And I have two academic degrees from a respected American university as well as time spent in college and university settings in Denmark and England. It was just weird. I started out so enthusiastic, but had to withdraw by the middle of the first semester because the "class" presentations were just so weird. It was like some weird kind of psy-ops. The professors would pretend in some cases to be worse at English than they really were just to confuse the students. One of the worst English speakers had an acupuncture business in the town and his English on his cell phone when he thought I was a prospective customer was so much better than it was in his classes. It was like the Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree (M.A.) was just a ruse to confuse as many Americans as possible, while bilking the U.S. government and citizens who are paying for the "education" through federal student loans. I also noticed that the professors would contradict what was written in the books. Just wanted to put this up on the board and see what people thought. That teacher is probably not confident enough about the material he is teaching. So he's acting like he don't know English to avoid student questioning. There are many "styles" in acupuncture. And different styles have different sets of points used and understanding of what they cure. So there are a lot of contradictions. It's normal (in TCM). They set up standards in textbooks but in reality there are never "golden" standards. All roads lead to Rome, if you understand what I mean. |

Yes, AC, Just the other day on the National Geographic Channel there was a show about mummies discovered in China that looked like white people. This was way before the archaeologists have been saying they believed there to have been any cultural contact at all between the two cultures. I often think that the Asians and the white-skinned people are very close genetically. or in history of evolution, I mean.
