GUN ADVICE PLEASE!!!
I'm about to blow 550 dollars on one of three guns and this will be my last firearm purchase for a long time. My needs are scattered and i want to purchace the "better" all purpose weapon given a choice beteween these three:

1. Yugo SKS (great condition)not sure what year.

2. Rossi Model 92 lever in .38special AND .357magnum holds 8 rounds in mag 16.5 inch barrel, accurate and just looks darn fun.

3. GSG-5 .22long rifle tactical semi-automatic. it is a HK MP5 clone and it seems like a great firearm. released in 2007 and will no longer be manufactured due to a lawsuit by HK for "trade-dress infringement" So I wonder if parts and mags will remain available for this gun, BUT it's value will become substatial for it's limited production.

I'm looking for serious advice considering the times at hand. Whoch one of these can I rely on for hunting/defense in typical situations and most weather conditions? My education leans me towards the Rossi Model 92.

I'm listening.

Do not get any very small arms guns (like pistols, etc) and stray away from smaller ammunition types (.22, 9mm, etc).

I'd really suggest looking for a big gun, that is cheap but effective. I myself have been looking into the AK-103 (or is it 107? I can't remember) and a rip-off of the M4.

Re: GUN ADVICE PLEASE!!!
For hunting/defense they all suck. For 550 you should get an AK that will accept 30 round mags. Same round as the SKS with added mag capacity. The other two would only be effective at very close range or on squirrels (in the case of the .22)

You can always add a bolt gun later for precision/hunting.

Search Classic Arms and check out their selection.

Re: GUN ADVICE PLEASE!!!
1. There is no such thing.
2. A good general purpose rifle depends on where you will be using the rifle.
3. If you live in North America, the 5.56mm or .223 ( same round )is probably the best gen. purpose caliber, but there are several others out there that will perform just as well.

but number 3 on your list if you must .22 equals cheap readily available
and will kill just fine

personally i would have a .22 or .17 (.22 for the common supply of the ammo in a teotwawki situation)and a .223 ( agan easy to find ammo and economical

I think everyone should have the following:

1.) .22
2.) .223
4.) 12 guage shotgun
5.) 9mm pistol

easy to get the ammo on the four above and covers every situation ...

I would buy them in that order as you can afford to ... I am former military so take what I say as you wish .. but if i had to pick one and only one to do everything with ..

1.) hunt small game
2.) hunt large game
3.) be Accurate .. 7.62 WEAPONS JUST ARE NOT as accurate as others period
4.) defend yourself if needed

and all of it had to be one gun .. it would be a well made expensive .22 with a GREAT SCOPE

but i have t means to have all 4 weps and ammo to boot .. i understand everyone doesnt

I also have a .300 weatherby and a .50 bmg
as well as various semi auto defense weps and tactical shotguns but none are needed imho for all around wep usuage unless you need to make 2000 yard plus shot .../shrug

I was going to get a big gun to complement my lack of hand-to-hand skills and decent accuracy with a projectile weapon.

I'd rather know I can shot someone than need to carry a knife because my laws don't allow me to carry a gun, or some petty belief in "human goodness" causing the bad guys to NOT want to harm me...

Sorry, I know people in other countries where weapons such as guns are banned. They carry concealed blades to protect themselves, and now that is coing under fire (see: man in Sedan stabs 12 people in crowd).

And I am tired so my spelling is poor. I won't fix it though, so deal with it.

I seen it, and that is your personal opinion. My leaned towards .45s, and such. I've been hoping that a M468 might come onto the market at some point :P

So far, I heard a 2000 round minimal issues testimonial for the GSG5, is that a good base for track record?

Seems like you want that .22 because it looks cool. Do you know anything about the ballistics of the .22 lr? It's used to take down rat sized varmints. Not my first choice in repelling zombie hordes.

If you want a good/accurate .22 rifle for hunting small game get a CZ 452. If you want a rifle that will reliably penetrate someone's overcoat stick with the SKS/AK.

#1 should be a lot less than $550

SKS is a decent rifle, not to be overlooked.

I'd go for the .22 simply because of ammo availability.

I did it once, but he knew it was empty... He was also on break and told me to do it for a picture...

In retrospect, I hope no one ever sees it if he dies in the line of duty, or else everyone I know will hate me til the end of time.

Indeed Trin...I do like getting the soot out of my Savage 64 semi .22....oh yeah!!! BTW people, I already have a .22 rifle in semi auto...not tactical though....should that play into my decision? Does anyone have any thoughts on the Rossi M92 lever in .38spl/.357mag?

as i said that would NOT be the .22 i would buy ... its accuracy compared to kimber etc just wont be there

if you want that tactical look .. ruger 10/22 prolly has a bigger aftermarket than ak-47 worldwide ... you can repace petty much everything but the receiver on them depending on what you want to spend ...

but imho SCOPE > than rifle choice in a .22

if i had to choose one it would be kimber .22 classic best all around in my opion out of the box

ballistic tipped synthetic expanding .22 ammo is very deadly btw

Yeah, save your money and get a FN FAL.

Seriously though, you should select a firearm for the job you intend it to do. If you want a battle rifle, out of the 3 you mentioned, get the SKS. If you want a cool gun that is cheap to operate and easy to shoot, get the .22. If you want stopping power (i.e. game hunting) get the lever .357.
